That is the early GMC cab on the red truck in the barn (why is it every one of those early things has a red cab and black fenders????? Must have been a good color combo for the farmers, mine was that way too, but mine is a 6x4 CCW) It's missing the window protector on the back of the cab, but there are some nice looking "Banjo" axles laying on it too, looks like a few other trucks gave their all to provide those parts. Hey OD Dave, I've got two of those DUKW rims with older tires sitting in the barn here in Sandusky, let me know if you're interested, they're looking for a home, they came with a bunch of CCKW/CCW stuff years ago.

What you got here is a 1970 or 71 Kizer Jeep M817 truck dump. Has a 5 yard dump body NHC 250 Cummis with a Five speed Manual tranny and a two speed Trafer case 9 -20 tires

Tires are 11x20s, not 9x20s.

AMC renamed the division AM General, which still operates today, and is best known as the manufacturer of the Humvee, and civilian Hummer H1.

Our museum has a 1973 Kaiser Jeep M51 A2, probably one of the last to be called Kaiser Jeep.

That is a second Sergeant Missile warhead trailer that someone put a blank data plate on and stamped in some VIN info. That is my guess anyway.

@ NDT, That red trailer had rollers all over it. You can see one up front (high), and one right where the upper deck drops down.... Plus others.

If I'm aloud back there, I'll be sure to take more pics.
So, what kind of winch was that in my photo? PTO driven MV?
The red trailer started life looking just like the OD one, sort of a chassis/spine trailer. You can see one of the mounting pads for the warhead canister in the far left of the pic. The winch is civilian.

Please get more pics of the CCKWs, especially of the closed cabs. Those are the highly desireable items in your find if they are not rusted and smashed.

can't help with the winch but what you seem to have stumbled upon is the fabled CCKW graveyard [thumbzup] It is interesting that the truck in the right hand image still has it's troop seats after all these years (I'm sure they were replacements at some point). Thruck appears to be very complete. Wonder how the cab is?

Not sure how you'd go about making a triple rear axle CCKW as they didn't have the top loader axles like the M35 trucks. So getting power to that last axle would be difficult. Unless it is just there for support & not driven? Wonder how it's attached to the truck?

I don't know what happens if they move this thread. But if it's the right thing to do, go for it.
Here's a couple "teaser" photo's. Tell me about this winch. Did they make a triple rear axle CCKW??
The winch actually looks like a maritime item to me, certainly looking at those two side-slips on each side of the actual winch. I saw similar but much older winch sets on the old ships that carried cargo through the Dutch canals. Some older sailing boats might have similar winches. I will try find some examples later tonight if I get around to it.

Thanks for the histry, I wondered what happen to Studebaker offton called stedybreaker with the round grill

Me too. It's like "American Pickers" but of the OD steel kind. I've learned an enormous amount of knowledge just reading through posts/TM's here on S.S.


The MV world would be a wonderfull place if we could get others to do the same.

The winch looks like something off a utility truck, not off something maritime as the winch is wrong, its obviously not a ' jury riged' winch and capstan outfit, too nice looking, but didn't belong where it is now. Designed as one piece and made to run off a chain drive PTO rig. Really nice pictures and some sweet stuff there though. Would be nice to have that truck too. Make a nice running mate for my 6 x 4 CCW 5 tonner. A close look would tell if its and original GMC bed though it does look all steel, if the floor plate is radiused up at the edge not butted to the side plate, its an original. Had one "H" of a time finding mine looked all over the country and ended up with one off a farm 15 miles from home after I thought I'd have to settle for a later model composite bed.

The more I look at that picture, ( the white cab complete truck) the more I'm willing to bet its a CCW not a CCKW. Wish the weeds in front allowed us to see the front axle, I'd be willing to bet its an I-beam axle not a "banjo" for a CCKW. There are just too many similarities to my truck there. Looks to be original rubber too which tells me its not the off road CCKW, but a 5 ton. Next time you're there look on the shaft tunnel under the dash, there should be a builders plate from the Yellow Truck and Bus there that will give the weight at 20,000.

I hope everyone is still watching this thread. The owners of the vehicles have informed me that they are having and auction. Keep your eyes open, I'll let you all know when it is.
Also, for you heavy equipment folks, they have 4 caterpillar pieces. 2 Payloaders, 1 dozer, 1 backhoe.... all of them are about 10 -12 yrs. old. THE DOZER ONLY HAS 58 HRS. ON IT!!! THE HOE STILL HAS PLASTIC ON THE SEAT!!!

You should try to get them to sell you the dump before the rest of us auction vultures get to compete with you on it..... LOL, Looks like they have a bit of great things there, providing they do not get to carried away.

Actually, I'm probably not going to be bidding unless of course nobody shows up. I REALLY don't need another project..... of course that's never stopped any of us before!!!
I wish I had the need of a dozer or backhoe.... I'd be getting a loan for sure. Those things are like brand new.
