I also spent a few hours sleeping on a trash can, that looked just like this bucket. We were confined to a simulated Nuke bunker, and there was only room for 20 people. As we were almost 40 people in there, any port in a storm. My butt did not go to sleep as fast as my head. Man did I hurt when I woke up.

The crowning glory, was one night I went into the Chiefs off, to find a place to sleep during a 48 hour ORE, (Operational Readiness Evaluation.) It was dark and we could not use any light. There were people sleeping all over the place, and Chiefs desk was the only open space I could find in the dark. So In MOPP-4, with LBE, helmet and rifle, I climbed up on the desk, and went to sleep. A few hours later I woke up in extreme pain. Could hardly get up. Looked down at the desk, and there was Chiefs rifle and an AXE, that I had managed to sleep on. People laughed for days about that one.

Chief was on the floor. In 1973, the Army was a different place than it is now. I am sure Chief "Big C" would have told you, "If my rifle aint save in a trailer full of 20 soldiers, where would it be safer?"

No iam not. I just wanted to make sure what I need. I thought I wouldn't need the extra ATS control card. Do you have a mep? How's your setup?
I’ll jump in here. I have Kurt’s controller with the Generac ATS control card. The additional controller enabled me to buy the much more affordable Generac ATS rather than the quite pricey 2 wire ATS on the market.

I went this direction so that if I’m not home my wife and 2 babies will have power. Also, usually when the power is out it’s because of the weather, so it’s pretty nice not having to go outside:LOL:

let me know if you have questions. Also, feel free to PM me and we can even jump on a call

Can you send me a picture of your setup? Debating if to go with an ATS or interlock

An interlock is definitely the cheaper option.

I really came across Mep after looking at the generac propane/natural gas generators. It was looking at propane consumption that made we want to look into diesel (coupled with better shelf life). SO basically what i wanted in my system was self sourcing ability of diesel, ease of operation of a generac, quiet 1800rpm.. and you can see how it led me to MEP's. My point is though that I came to MEP's wanting automated operation. THAT is the benefit to the ATS.

As far as compromises with an ATS, the only thing I can think of is the cost. You can get an interlock kit installed quite cheaply. I paid my neighbor $500 for the ATS install (he is a master electrician, but I handled connecting the control wires to kurts controller), 800 for the ATS, and i think aroung 8-900 for Kurts controller.

If for whatever reason you have an issue with the controller, you can operate the generator and the ATS manually still. I say this because currently my generator is reporting low oil pressure despite have 45psi. The controller monitors OP to determine if the engine is running, so my controller thinks the machine has stalled. This means that if we lose power I have to start my machine like every other sucker until I figure out whats going on with my generator.

Anyways.... heres some photos. Please note that while the generator is in its final location here I have since removed the sheathing and have it blocked up! it was just on the board so i could move it with a pallet jack. Also some of these pictures were taken mid install.IMG_6298.jpgIMG_6297.jpgIMG_6295.jpgIMG_6294.jpg

It appears in the generator picture that the OP gauge is reading quite low. If you have 45 PSI (I assume using a mechanical gauge) then I suspect an issue with the OP sensor, wiring or gauge. Correcting that issue will make my Remote Start then know the generator is running. If you need help with this feel free to contact me. - Kurt

Thank you so much for replying. Big help. Seems like I might just go with an interlock and Kurt's remote controller so I can start it up with my phone and also like that I can see more info. Thank you and nice install

Obviously I went with ATS and personally feel like its better for my situation. I love automation and systems that just work when you need them. keep us updated on your install. I always love seeing what people come up with!

Just checking if you still needed help. 🙂
I appreciate that! The truth is my generator problems aren't the responsibility of the control card or its maker. that being said ill follow up with an email to you and tell you my findings when I get home this evening.
