What do running M1008's go for on GL?

Hello All! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I've been lurking for a while and reading up on all the great postings. I really must say that there is a lot of knowledge to be had here. That being said, I'm looking to buy my first CUCV from GL and was hoping that someone could give me some advice on what M1008's typically go for in "running" condition. Appreciate any and all thoughts.

Welcome to the site.

Lately runners have been bringing $3000-$5000 on GL. Add to that fees, taxes and pickup costs. Then plan on at least another $1000 to bring it up to usable condition. That is not excellent condition.

Parts trucks usually bring $1500-$2500. Everyone wants the axles. Years ago when there where many coming out you could get one for around $1000. No more.

Thanks Warthog! That helps me put things into some perspective. I know that there aren't many listed on GL currently as well, so that could be shaping bidding. I live on Ft Riley so i'd be hoping to find one on post. Pickup should be a snap! Of course "running" doesn't tell you how it will or wont go down the road. I assume it only means it could be started at the lot. What will I probably need to fix to make it usable?

Batteries for sure. Belts and hoses. Fluids. And more than likely tires. And then all the mechanical items that need to be checked.

Also plan on an injector pump replacement or rebuild as they are approaching 30 years and the internal rubber items are breaking down.

Riley hasn't had many lately. You missed the big flood of trucks by about 4 years.

Also be aware that GLs contract to sell rolling stock is ending. Govplanet.com is the new vendor. They start selling trucks mid-November

Might be cheaper in the long run to search Craigslist in your area and find CUCVs that are privately owned, or ones that are for sale in the classifieds here. For sure, some of what you will find for sale privately will be in better condition and for a fair price, than if you bought a GL truck and had to pay all the taxes/fees and the cost to improve it to your expectations.

I heard there was a new contract when I stopped by their lot to chat a bit (they really are friendly and helpful at this site!). One of the yard guys there told me these were their (GL) last vehicles but the lady who works in the office told me they are expecting another 30 or so vehicles to be shipped in this week. Not sure how long that will take to hit the website though.

I figured on the batteries and tires for sure. I have an uncle who works for one of the larger trucking companies. He can get "group 31" or 34 batteries that are 13 in long x 6.5 wide x 8 in tall for free. They replace them at least every 2 years from their trucks. Would these batteries fit/work?

Exactly right. Mine was listed as "driven on to lot" and they had a video of them moving it.

Got there and it wouldn't shift out of first. Rotted vacuum lines. Trailer queen.

31s will fit the existing battery trays just fine, and do the job well for you. I don't know about 34s, one way or another.

I wouldn't be scared if you see a non runner on the site. My M1009 and M1028 were both listed as "does not start" but both were easily made to start. Most are fairly low mileage so the problems are usually not catastrophic.

I bought my M1009 before the GL website got popular and got a great deal. When I started looking for a M1008 or M1028 they were selling for insane money. The trick I stumbled on was to find a GL site that was selling a large lot of them at once and they went a lot cheaper. I ended up snagging the M1028 for $2,400 when I had been seeing them sell in the $5K plus range. The best part was all it needed was fresh batteries.
