What have you done to your MKT this week???

I have two sets of travel curtains that are in good shape except for the seams, the thread is just rotting away making them useless! I have tried having they resown but no go, too thick for all the local upholsters, even the leather guys won't touch them. I have seen several YouTube videos of a hand cranked leather sewing machine for about a $100. Has anyone tried to resew the vinyl covers with something like that?

newer equipment just isn't the same as the old gear driven stuff.
My cousin does upholstery work and regularly buys machines that are in the 80+ year old range and still working great. All of it gear driven, not direct motor drive, so lots more power.
I haven't gotten around to fixing some of my soft covers for my trucks, because he's always so busy; but find the right machine and it shouldn't be an issue.

Keep your eyes open for old equipment on craigslist and whatnot and you might be able to find some of the old, heavy duty equipment for a reasonable price, do your repairs, then when you are done you can turn around and sell it for what you paid (or keep it for future jobs)

I have watched GSA and the other surplus sites but the good heavy duty machines with the long reach I need always go really high, I am now watching Market Place on FB but the little manual machine is looking better and better!

Chris, next time you are cooking for the kids, try the chili-mac. Cook up the macaroni 6 lb in each of the 10 gallon pots, drain through the collander into a 15 gallon pot and put the drained mac into two square head pans (see post 212, pic #4), add two #10 cans of Chili-no-beans, and 64 oz of ketchup to each and stir them up well. Cover and place in the tops of your M-59's. When they start bubbling around the edges of the pan, sprinkle about two pounds of shredded cheese on top of each one. Serve when the cheese has melted. I've feed 80+ almost every year I cooked at the GA Rally and had leftovers that Kenny and Angie would fight over.

Great idea for the next one Mike (They have an overnight camping trip in the late spring), I didn't pick out the menu this time. I will get to pick the menu for the camping trip and will include that for dinner.

Got my MKT-90 a few years ago.....drug it to OK for Route 66 Bike Rally, then put it in a shop for trailer mod.....took a little longer than desired, and still have some finishing touches, but got tired of waiting!

You almost have enough room to add a FST (Field Sanitary Trailer body) to the front. IE three sinks, a drain rack and some wire shelving to serve as drying racks. Run the plumbing down to a grease separator with the output through the floor and use a union joint to attach a 50 foot drain hose for the grey water.

Just got home and unpacked from Camp Plymouth....wow what a great time. Brought the MKT and had it set up all week. Cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, spam and hash browns) Thursday through Saturday to raise money for the club. I was too busy to take photos, but over the course of those days, we probably feed over 400 meals. I got a chance to talk with a few vets that had worked in MKT's during their time in the service. Lots of funny stories. Big thanks to Keith Courtney my partner in crime. And of course, JoAnn and Kurt Lessor for inviting me to cook. Can't wait for next year!

Yep, everyone thinks it's cool (except for those that worked on one LOL). Great idea on additional spam flavors. Breakfast was only supposed to be on one day, but was requested for all so we will be stepping up our game next year.

This week, I cleaned up and serviced a couple of spare MBU's but the real fun happened today. Although my son has since graduated (2022), I still drag my MKT out and cook lunch for his former JROTC unit (CA-901) for their annual Fun Olympics. This event draws 8-12 local high school ROTC units together for leadership games and team events. Lots of fun. They love the MKT, but it sure helps feed 150 plus kids, parents and event staff in a hurry. I didn't get any pictures as I was pretty much setting up, cooking, and cleaning and tearing down. If they send me any I will post them.

Reading somewhere the other day how U.S. Military is concerned about default reliance on electronics:

- Returning now to teaching compass skills, and the USN to teaching sextant skills (solar/celestial navigation). Who knew?

Not sure if they had any map/orienteering this day as it is a huge bunch of kids for about 5-6 hours, but his unit did have a weekend course for using good old fashion compass for navigation they would put on right after school starts in the fall. They do an overnight in the foothills in the spring and they have a SEAR instructor come up from Beale for a bunch of survival related instruction. It was great last year as they brought up some rabbits and had the kids' skin and cook them up. Only a few were willing to try it. Fun times
