Pulled this Bradford tree down before it went through this old house
If I remember it right, the Bradford Pear Tree was "invented" by the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

- It was a hybrid, bred to be the perfect urban tree

For my two bits, it seems like they claimed success with their Beta version, and quit their research too early in the game.

They should have gone to maybe Bradford 3.0, or 4.0

The things tend toward multiple trunks, and they are a disaaster-waiting-to happen when those trucks inevitably split.

Making radials fly again

Took a quick jaunt down to central CA to snag two Guiberson Radial Diesels that were in the M3 Stuarts and are going to support the motor going in the LVT...

Also assorted logging and property projects but no pictures there - she gets used about every other day

Enjoy

Matt

And a meeting of Cletracs just for Jim - I'm catch up buddy - that's 4 now - we need to chat about the crate motor you have and make a plan
Howdy Matt
Are you still involved with T1020's?

CAT scale wt. was 12,780 lbs for that 1 log.
This is what i initially purchased the truck for. Once the brake dragging issue is resolved and i can get a converter dolly purchased or built to accept my gooseneck, i can then start making drives to east tx, recovering other large trees.

It is a 42” bar on a 661 and the tree is bitternut hickory aka: pecan. Plan is making tables and counters

after back surgery recovery over the next few months, i am gonna order a complete saw and a kit clone ms880 and a 72” cannon bar and cs mill some less knotty sections of walnut, pecan, different oak species and lastly pine (for a new porch/decking)

That’ll be 3-4 yrs from now. I need to finish up my sawmill, or have it slab up early nxt yr and get it to air drying for 2-3 yrs before sending it to a kiln for 6-8 wks to get the moisture content down to about 7-9% l. But iv got some pecan i salvaged from west Louisiana that is starting to get punky/rotten/soft. I have found pecan left in solid (tree/log) form, starts rotting out within 2-3 yrs. So the la pecan needs to be cut first.

Here is a coffee table im doing for a friend that lives in idaho. The slab is face down, so it is reversed from what the state of id should like.
In this configuration, its going to take 28 gallons of epoxy to fill it in.

Its currently 3” thick and needs to 1-1.25” of material taken off, which should yield about 5-6 gallon of epoxy that’ll turn to “plastic” chips.

I havent calculated the volume yet with this new piece of filler, which im hoping will reduce the reqrd volume down to 20 gal or slightly less.

i wish it was wholesale. @ $100 a gallon, that is $2800 in just epoxy, with about $600 turned into thin plastic shavings/chips. plus I'm not making any $$$ on this. It is a belated wedding gift. I am not sure of the style table legs they are going with, but if they request me to build them, then that is with gonna be steel (i hope) or stainless (getting better at welding it) and a LOT of gas and big filler rod. I hope they go with pre-fab legs from a vendor. i honestly don't want to build them.

I hear you. I used to work with a guy who was big-time into turning wood. Spent all his free time at his lathe. Bowls, pens, candleholders.

I could just never find any interest in the idea.
