Seems like there should be a sticky thread labeled this. Hard to do a search for something you don't know the name of.

M35A3 air intake assembly

Anyways, in the attached diagram, off to the side of the main vertical cylinder there is a little...shunt? and an opening that looks like it needs a small cap. It's maybe a little over and inch across. It looks like item #40/41 connect to it, but I can't see what 41/40 then connect to.

I don't have 40/41 and the area is just an opening that I think needs a cap? Anyone know what the purpose of this is and if it can/should be capped or where it goes?

Are you referring to the exhaust suction pipe ? If so that is used to "pull" out the heavy dirt particles from the filter housing. When the truck is running, the exhaust creates a vacuum due to the "venturi" effect. It is strong enough to pull heavy dirt particles from the air filter housing, then it shots them out the exhaust pipe. You will need to have the A3 muffler or add a "T" to the exhaust tube to get the "venture" effect to pull the dirt out. I need to add this to my truck. I just have a "cap" on mine at this time. If you decide to make your own you will need to put the pipe as close to the muffler exhaust and angle it upwards. It also will need to go into the exhaust pipe at least a 1" with the top of the pipe cut horizontal to the exhaust pipe. Here's a quick little drawing showing what I mean.

Glad it worked out. It was fine on my truck, just needed some TLC.
