parts searching has not been succesful so I am searching for another truck to part.
parts I want.
4l80e 4x4 transmission. - needs correct tail shaft to work with 203 xfer case. newest models not sure what year looks like the got rid of tail section and newer transfer cases attatch to shortened tranny. also want the later model where cooling lines are seperated and not togather.

Want D60 and 14 bolt ff axles. most single wheel 1 ton chevy's will have these however not sure if there are models with electric locking hubs.
(i want the regular locking hubs not electric)

want 6.5 turbo and wiring harness so thats easy to figure. need to know if there were any better years of the 6.5, due to additional alloys in the block or an updated head design. or are all years they were made the same?

yes, I want all this for my m1009. yes I know i will be spending more on upgrades than truck is worth but I dont care about that. this one will never be sold.

I think the 93 to 96 chevy 1 ton 4X4 with 6.5 engine is what I am looking for.

Please let me know what you think/know. I think I can buy a whole truck cheaper than what the parts are selling for.

thanks,

You will NEVER find that in one truck (factory)

Trans- Any 98+/- a year or 2. They only have 1 4x4 output and you need the small six bolt patern

axles- all chevy srw 1-tons 77-91 used the same (except ratios)

engine- you want a 92-93 pump with a VERY late "optimizer" block & heads, Late or aftermarket turbo

Also the engine/trans wiring harness & ecm/tcm from a 92-93 6.5/4l80e truck will help you greatly.

I am pretty sure they built them with all of these parts.
the one ton single rear wheel 6.5 using the 4l80e. now all the best years of those parts on one truck I may not be able to find but If I can get 90% its probably worth it vs. parts buying.

Nope. dana 60 was axed in 91, 6.5 didnt come out till 92

You could get a 6.2/4l80e/60&14 in 1991

Why dont you just buy a 1995 2 door diesel tahoe?? Paint it camo! It would be a lot easier!!!

thanks, lets subtract the d60 and then what is best

thanks OD. I thought the d60 went through late 90's.
but if I can get all but that it is prob. worth looking into.

If I deduct the D60. and just look at the other items.
what would be the best year if it made any difference.

I have found some 93 to 96 1 tons I can get for less than 3k.
get all the parts I want and scrap the rest so I might be in it for 2k minus the d60

just trying to work out all my options for building my 1009 the way I want it.

95 tahoe to expensive

I believe the only thing a 95 diesel tahoe would get me is a 6.5 turbo and tranny, no drivetrain upgrade
plus these are not cheap used unless it is wrecked and then you may have a lot of bad parts due to that.

1 ton trucks are pretty cheap and i can get one still running.

and I loose all the military goodies

The list I gave you is about as good as its gonna get. Honestly you could sorce the parts reasonably. No two of them really came on one year.

GM did not build the 1 ton K30 until 1977. That's the first year for the Dana 60 front axle.

thanks for all the info.

thanks for all the info, being that parts are getting harder to get and some good used running trucks are still out there I wanted to determine the best years to look at.

I have a 2000 model 4l80e two wheel drive that was free needs rebuilt and I have someone that will do that for me for $300 plus parts. It has already been broken down and parts are 600. trying to get tail piece and tail shaft to change to 4X4. or another reasonable 4X4 core so far $600 is best I am finding in my area for the core which is not reasonable.

I will keep looking for a D60, but would like to get matching front and rear ratios. so thats another reason for a parts truck. going with the overdrive and 37 inch tires so need low gearing in the axles. the 3:73 in the 10 bolts with an overdrive are useless with big tires.

I will be doing a 203/205 doubler. for t-case. have a friend in the rock crawler world working on this for me. he has built one already for his crawler.

I plan to keep the 6.2 till it fails, wanted to get 6.5 for manifolds and turbo plus keep it, rebuild it and have it ready when the 6.2 fails. not a necessity for this part of the build. may try to get the wiring harness instead of stand alone computer thus when i do get the 6.5 in future It will be an easy swap.

thanks for all the info, I know what I want to do with my 1009. I basicly want a 4 seat 1008 with an overdrive and big a** tires with 6 inch lift.
I have wanted a blazer since i got my drivers license in 1985. a friend gave me my first 1009 (a rust bucket) that needed a starter. I fixed it and drove it a year or two at the deer lease before the IP quit body was so bad it was not worth fixing so I bought another from GL and scrapped my old one. this is where I got my OD fever from.

I put the tread out there to hopefully help all who do not know what year trucks came with what parts. and what year parts are the best. It may not be a bad idea to have a parts/year info thread hear in SS. this way memebers could look up a part and then be able to source the best year for that part making it easier to source the part. I know this info is on the site but takes a lot of thread searching for each part, to find the best part info.

thanks to all for the help. I have lots of time for parts hunting not going to be working on truck till sometime in september.
