There WAS something in there, don't know how long ago, but there is evidence of an object sliding in or out of the tube. I thought maybe an antenna. Can a MG be mounted with the top on? Anyone got an up close picture of the MG mounted?

That explains the holes on the passenger side, rear of the cab and maybe the same holes on the drivers side. There were 2, 1/2 x 2 1/4 stainless u-bolts only on the drivers side in the holes. I figured they were for a radio antenna mast. Maybe it had a MG mounted, then a radio mast. There was a funky mounting plate flopping around under the passenger seat when I got it.

Did the funky mounting plate have wires and connectors? Might have been an MT-1029 radio mount.

The tube on the passenger's door was for mounting the MG ring mount, also for mounting convoy flags. Here is a pic from an earlier posting showing the MG ring mount on a deuce in Iraq.
