There is something in the back of my mind that says it was discussed once before.

One of the Alaska SS guys knew what it was, but I can't seem to find the thread now.

I think you are correct in that it may be heater related...

Nope, search swing fire heater on ebay, you will find the heater itself for about 200. The heater inserts in that "sleeve" to do the heating. I have yet to see what all it consists of on the truck. The heater itself takes gas or diesel and you pump it up and fire it off.

My first Deuce has the same setup. Also had the arctic cargo cover , cargo compartment heater, hood blanket, grill cover,& hot water heater mounted under dash.
Look for an electrical plug near the right headlight that I guess the Swingfire heater plugged into.
