What oil do you use?

Forgive the new thread. I'm sure there's an old one somewhere but a search of any type here keeps removing the word "oil" as it's too common of a word.

The TM for my truck states regular 30 weight dino oil will work, but 15w-40 seems much more common and may be a better alternative.

I've already ordered a Wix filter for a direct replacement of the filter that's currently on the truck. Now I need to buy the oil. What's best based on everyone's experience?

I see Rotella is available in synthetic but I think dino oil would be better. Correct?

There are arguments both ways so all I will just say I run reg 15w40 motor oil and life goes on.

The Detroit is a "dirty" engine with its mechanical injection so there is no advantage to using the more expensive synthetic oil as it will not extend the oil change interval.

I use John Deere 15W40, mostly because I'm a Deere mechanic and it's cheap in bulk at work.

Rotella T6 15W40

Synthetic oils don't age seals as quickly as conventional oils. There is a benefit beyond reduced engine wear.

Any 15w-40 from anywhere works fine…

Yes, I actually pay for it. The bulk is 32 cents per quart cheaper than the buckets. Our business has a tanker which will fill tanks on the farm as well.
