What the heck is this on GSA auction?

On GSA auction http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucitsrh/ , described as 'Unimog' but doesn't look like any Unimog I'VE ever seen, though I've only seen about a dozen ever

The sale ends today so jump in there and bid! If it were close I'd buy it just out of curiosity...

Agreed, some time ago we had a member who had aIFA-W50 here in the US with a US military truck bed on it. Nice looking truck overall but I bet parts are a hassle.

When I checked the site it was described as a "Unimog".

That's an East German Truck. Not a West German Mercedes Unimog.

At least Mercedes was nice enough to put their emblem on all of the Unimogs... and yes, it certainly is Eastern-Bloc/Soviet.

Hi all, the russian truck Gaz 66 is quite similar.

This is an eastern Germany IFA truck.

It does look like the IFA-W50 - perhaps a target vehicle ?

I know the US imported a number of trucks for evaluation and some for target practice. The IFW's are as ugly as sin but seem to have a reputation for a solid built reliability. APparently after the merger of East/West Germany Mercedes took over the IFW operations.

I saw a youtube on a truck looking just like this. The guys were german and the video was about them starting this type of truck up for the first time in decades or something like that
