Once you figure out where it's coming from, and correct that, you may want to flush the cooling system. Best thing I have found for that is in the "weird but true" category:

Amway SA8 laundry detergent.

No, I don't sell it. You can go on their website and find a dealer near you. The stuff is really good. You can throw it in there and leave it for a month or two, then flush and refill with clean antifreeze.

It's got built-in rust inhibitors, will really clean out the oil and rust, will NOT harm anything in your cooling system, and it's very friendly to the environment.

What's not to like?

Too clean for engine oil, either transmission cooler leaking or water pump bearings going out.

I cleaned the overflow jug and it hasn't come back. I'm guessing something was in there from its past life.
