Whats this tire carrier?

Just picked up this 1097A2, and it has this carrier on the back. It looks different from others I've seen. It doesn't have lowering capability like some I've seen. Looks beefy though.

I see only two studs to mount the wheel. Would you guys suggest adding additional studs? I'm a little uncomfortable mounting such a heavy spare with only two lugs, but maybe I'm over thinking it?

I'll be starting a build thread once I receive the truck. I have a lot of cool stuff planned for it!

That is the original tire carrier made by AMG to the best of my knowledge.
They also made a swing out fuel and water can carrier for the other side.

Cool. I guess a haven't paid much attention to the differences in carriers. I was watching one that had a swing out fuel carrier. Looked out of place without the Jerry Can in it.

Oh and to answer your original question about only 2 bolts I made a 1/2 thick metal ring with 4 holes in it that goes over rim then the 2 lug nuts hold it then welded a post in the center of the hub with a hole in it for a lock then cut a piece of 1/2" bar stock to span the center hub. It was just added security to keep the honest thief's from stealing my spare tire easily.

After all that I went to a modified Rhino carrier and custom matching swing away fuel carrier. Still have the original tire carrier and fuel carrier collecting dust out back.

That's a great idea! I like the added security, and it sure is beefy.

So the two studs seem to be fine for holding it in place? After thinking about it, it seems like they should be ok, as they're mounted to thick steel, with a locater ring in the center to help carry the weight of the rim.

8 studs support the tire mounted onto a vehicle weighing up to 15,500 lbs.
Pretty sure 2 studs can hold a tire weighing 160ish lbs against a backing plate.
The center hub supports the tire weight anyway, the studs are just to keep it from sliding off.

Is that AMG Spare Tar Carrier the same as this one on a CTIS equiped SF Ground Mobility Vehicle GMV? The bumper mount looks the same.
