These are some strange trucks, very high serial numbers and mostly 6.5L GEP (probably de-tuned) and the 242 TC, otherwise they are like early A1 trucks, three speeds, V BELTS (UUGGG), etc.

These are "rebuilds" but why the heck did they not upgrade these to A2s while they were spending a bazillion dollars on them.. or at least serpentine belts, what a waste..

I just bought one from Wisconsin about month ago , dang cool , runs great, ok I sound like a salesman lol just want to find lighter springs for the rear, payload says 4400 pounds , what the heck

1097 is the heavy variant, supposed to be able to carry heavier loads than the standard M998

All the ones I have seen that have come up in Texas are three speed, and what they are getting for those junkers is amazing

I watched most of these trucks sit and rot at Ft Hood for years. They'd get forked from area to area for inventory then forked again for demil. I mean.. it's tempting to get a running beater HMMWV for this cheap when you factor in shipping. I like the 1152 and 1165 better.

I just bought a M1097R1 from the Pennsylvania depot. Got it for what I feel is decent price. Need to replace the hood and the speedo and the batteries. They were upgraded, as mentioned, to carry extra weight. Hopefully my wife doesn't have the opportunity to say "I told you so". It hasn't arrived yet.

I'm very green to the humvee world. But I would think you could find the springs for the previous variants of the 1097R1. It got a beefed up suspension with tougher struts, springs, control arms, sway bars, etc. to carry a heavier load. Not sure how much relief that would bring, but it's a start.
