I'm sorta in the same boat trying to source an MK48. A nice HEMTT will run six figures.

I've watched and searched as well pending I win the lotto. I've seen them go from 36k-85k depending on model and condition. There are some models that will fetch over that, I just haven't seen them. The 36k was a serious fixer upper, and the 85k was a M977 I believe, runner in nice condition.

Actually, I think the last one on Armyjeeps.net was quite a bit higher than that (I think it started at $85-90,000 and went down over time) but it is being cut up and turned to a motorhome-expedition vehicle. David there gave me a appraisal for mine for the insurance company.

If you REALLY want one, just be patient, they come up for sale every year or so. You will NOT find a nice one for cheap. I wouldn't expect to find one that you can drive right away for less than $40-50,000. The wrecker and the 3-PLS trucks were a gamble for their new owners. Dave will do just fine on his wrecker for 25 or whatever he paid. There is enough upside that he could fix a lot and still be ahead. The PLS's look good and perhaps they are, time will tell, I almost bid and I would have matched those prices if I had.

Mine started out as the worst I've seen and ended up . . . probably the best one out there. Much of the work thanks to Damon - DMA251

Isn't the reason for their scarcity is that these models are sent back to the factory, tore down, and then sent down the line again being rebuilt with all the latest technology the brand new ones are getting?

Fleet Modernization : Oshkosh Defense
There have been around a thousand that have gone through Winchester KY in the last three years. Some were new, many were reconditioned (You can't tell the difference) but they were all purdy.

I've seen as many as sixty seven parked at a time, (Yeah, I counted them) but now they are down to four that you can see from the road. I was going to take pictures and post them here, but decided against it. Loose lips sink ships, that sort of thing. I think Gimpy had passed by them a few times. I know Popacom saw them pass through.

Er . . . I'm not gonna post my address here but I live on West Lake Sammamish. I don't have land to play on, I used to take my amphibians out on the lake though. My toys are used on the street only now, with the exception of the grass at the Arlington Airshow.

My brother used to work for Oshkosh, flew all over teaching people how to work on and operate those things. Idiot quit and went to teach high school shop class. Said he couldn't get excited about his job. Told him most grown men would sell kids to drive one of those just once, let alone every day.
