Which starter

I am putting a 6.2 HMMWV motor into my GMC. I am ready to fire this thing up, I just need a starter. I can't find any information on replacement HMMWV starters other than replacement HMMWV starters which are insanely expensive.

Will a 24V gear reduction starter off a CUCV work on the HMMWV engine? I think I will also need the newer type support bracket. GM part # 23502557

Yes, a CUCV starter will work. I have a 6.5 HMMWV engine in my 1986 CUCV ,M1028A2 Dually.

I love the M1028's, sweet looking rig you have there. Probably find one myself when I get my first CUCV.

This engine has not been test run in 2 years. I think the IP still has fuel in it but I am sure most of the system is full of air. I was told to squirt some marvel oil into each cylinder to pre lube them. Then crank until the marvel gets bleed out. Is it as simple as hooking up a can of diesel to the lift pump and cranking until it fires up? I shouldn't need the GP's, it's over 110 outside these days. I'll probably put an inline filter after the lift pump so no junk gets sucked into the IP.
