Will an 8.3 cummins create too much torque for the M35 driveline?

What about a DT360?
It's not really too big, but the oil pan and pickup would require major modification. It's long enough that you won't fit an intercooler up front. Starter is on the wrong side, and so is the injection pump. They also have a lot more points of failure as far as coolant leaking into or out of places it isn't supposed to.
The advantages of the DT360 are that they are more of a heavy duty engine. They have bigger rods and all, and they are wet sleeved as opposed to the parent bore of the 6BT. They're also cheaper.

Most of this stuff can be dealt with. The question is whether the headache is worth it to you instead of just spending a bit more on a 6BT.

Edit to correct: The injection pump on the DT360 isn't on the wrong side, but the starter is.
I was remembering that improper detail from one of the old Ford diesel engines in some school bus models.
