I never updated this thread and in searching for a totally different thread, I found this one.

The reason that winch driveshaft was getting so personal with the steering box was the crappy A2 style engine crossmember has sagged so much, it's sucked the framerails together.

There are threads describing this problem that also show a military MWO to brace the crossmember.

I have a nice, non sagged crossmember which I've sandblasted and will reinforce before swapping. I'll do all of this when I do the P/S and the front axle caster plates.
