This thread is inspirational. I still want to install a warn 18k on the rear of my deuce. I just haven't found one for the right price, and I'm even open to 12v since I have a dual voltage system.
What is a good price on a new complete takeoff Warn 24V 18,000 lbs?

Coffey1 that looks really sharp. I would like to follow the same, but am concerned with the tailgate as andy3 mentioned. Could the gate opening issue be alleviated by simply flipping the roller fairlead over and mounting it on the inside of the plate, vs the outside? I have not thought it through enough to say it should work, but......

If not, then could chain the gate to open like a pickup truck, or add bump stops so it only flips down 97% of the way vs 100%....?

We have already modified his chains so that they will hold the tailgate level with the bed if he hooks them in. We modified all of our trucks so that the chains are welded to the truck sides instead of the tailgate. This was done much earlier. We talked about it not opening all the way but he said that it will be fine. A couple of ideas were to move the fairlead inside and mount to a heavy duty bracket so that the rollers are flush with the aft panel of the bed or make a spring loaded trap door that will let the fairlead actually pass thru the tailgate as it swings down into the vertical position. It sounds complicated but I think that it can be done relatively easily. We shall decide later.....

I have another thought. I need to run by my master chief engineer.
Which I think will work for me.
As with everything there is give and take.
If I can't let gate all the way down I will live with it for the benefit of having a rear winch.

Could you post a couple of pictures of the underside of the front winch mount/ bumper area? i am wondering how you tied the lower bumper mounting brackets into the frame extensions. Did you have to modify the bumper?

We took the bumper brackets and moved them to the outside of the bumper. It made things alot simpler. The bottom and top are both the same.
