Windshield de-icer

Does anyone have a working windshield de-icer or TM that outlines the system?

The three wires coming out of the A pillar center into the de-icer control box are clear.

There are many wires behind the battery box that have matching wire labels and we have traced continuity to the three in the A pillar.

How else is the system wired up? Is there both a relay and a breaker? Which wires go into what?

Following this, I'll try to dig into the manuals later to see if I can find anything. I bought a used box last year and plugged it in to the three wires hanging by the windshield and it doesn't turn on. I assumed I just got a broken defroster box, never thought there was more to the system!

Just buying parts and throwing parts at your truck without understanding the complete system is dangerous and expensive.

You should always know what you’re purchasing.

Those boxes work with a special windshield IIRC. IIRC that windshield contains special tungsten filaments between the panes of glass that is embedded in the plastic material.

Ibis tek knockout windshield with the matching plugs went in first so we're good on that end!

Start by turning things “on” and using a voltmeter to detect current at the three terminated plugs.

If no, see if there is current to the box.

You may have already done this. Not sure from your posts

Thanks @Greg841 and please let us know what you find!

At least with the 115X and 116X trucks there is definitely more than just plugging in the wires to the de-icer module.

There is a bundle of four wires with caps behind the battery box. Three of the four wires in the bundle trace to the three wires that come out of the A pillar. The fourth cable in the bundle is labeled 441 which is the output of the defroster module. There are a few other wires behind the battery box with same numbered tags.

There is a picture of a kit on the auction site that shows a breaker and relay in the kit. The relay is the same PN as the relay for the TCM.

As always a TM would clarify instantly.

Those things were removed from service....problems with staying on and de-laming windows.
