dstang, there seems to be no place to put it, no connection point or anything, and like I said my charging system seems to be fine.

cpf240, that woulda been my guess, if thats the case and its the tach signal for the diag. port, is that where I would pic up the signal for an electric tach?

It is only used for the diagnostic port under the dash. It "should" attach to the back of the alternator. Have you changed out the alternator witha civvy unit. Post a picture of the rear of the alternator.

If you can find a tach that works off the signal from the alt, then yes. There have been a thread or three on SS where members have been able to find a tach that will work with that as the signal. It is on my list of things to do one of these days when money grows on trees. ;)

Hello llong,

That wire attatches to a small pin/post that sticks out the backside of the drivers side alternator.
If you have an electric tach, that post/pin is where you would connect it to, to get a signal.

I remember that wire, because I had to replace both my alternators a few months ago,
with military alternators, and the Drivers side alternator had that post/pin.

I was also told that wire goes to the diagnostic port... So it can be left disconnected,
and your charging system should run fine anyway.

Good luck, good night, God bless you...

P.s. I too will install a tach, perhaps one similar to this so it blends in:

But I too, will have to wait until money grows on trees or pennies fall from heaven.

Rear of Alt pics, bringing back an old thread...

I had to put installing a tach on the back burner and never followed up on this. Warthog, I have included a cpl of pics of the rear of my DS alt. I am sure that the plug in my original post goes to this pin. It snaps right on. My question is that mine is stamped "R" next to this pin, not "W" as I have seen in other posts. Is this the same pin, does it have the same function/output? Thanks!
