A lot of CUCVs had the metal bracket to mount the C-2299 radio control box there, as well as the headset, mic, etc. Other things were bolted there, as well...

This is the radio bracket that is usually found there.
Whoever drove this 1009 in the Army got hold of a Dymo label maker and went to town, there are "helpful" labels everywhere in the truck, including under the hood!
