I'm going to replace the trans fluid in my gmc. I want to know if the Dexron/Mercon fluid will work in it?

yes BUT.... you will have to flush it out about 5 times to get all the oil out and the clutches re soaked. If it is working fine now just keep using what is in it... 10W ND oil.

I'm currently restoring the truck and I don't know how old the oil was or what was in it. I drained the oil out of the trans already. Should I put 12 quarts in, let it sit a week or so and then drain it?
