FUNNY! I thought it said pastries - I could go for a doughnut with my coffee right now! Yeah, pasties are great - wish they had a place around here in the south.

Looks like a great 'a1 - you won't regret spending a little extra for one that needs just a little work (instead of major missing parts and mods)! I've been working on mine pretty steady since November and yours is already at least as finished as mine. I just got my hood back from the shop yesterday - that's where I'm at!

Good Job! Keep us updated on her

It has a lot of dents that need to be fixed and at least one of the fenders will need to be replaced but it is solid and has practically no rust. I took it out cruising last night until it got hot because of the leaking radiator and we pushed it back into the garage with a police escort. Everytime we stopped for fuel or food on the way home I had several people approach me to talk about the jeep. I am really happy about it. On a side note, does anybody have a good source for a cheap a1 radiator?

Hardly no rust - GREAT! Dents and a fresh coat of paint are pretty cheap. Radiator - see if it is repairable. They come up on ePay sometimes. Last time I asked, you couldn't get a replacement core for them (don't know why - I didn't ask). That was 12 yrs ago though - maybe you can now.

See - already driving her around town. I can't do that yet! I've heard that everybody wants to talk about them at the gas station or the store, but haven't been in public with her yet.

Good Job!

I figured since it is all copper they may be able to fix it. It was great driving it around town but I had to be somewhat low key because it is not registered or insured yet. I have only had it for one day and I have already had at least a dozen people come up to talk to me about it. A few guys even pulled off the road to come into the gas station and see it. Once I find a reasonable insurance company I am going to have my little jeep all over town.

I got my insurance last week from J.C.Taylor - $128/yr, $0 dedectable, 3500mi/yr, not a daily driver, $15,000 payout. My insurance co. (Liberty Mutual) wanted $371/yr, $500 deductable, unlimited mileage, book value payout.

I will check out both of them tomorrow. I had a quote from gulfway on a deuce that I ended up not getting. I can't really find any reviews on them so I don't know how reliable they would be if I needed a claim.

My old CJ7 was a chick magnet. Girls were constantly commenting on it along with the occasional whistles and "Hey Baby" as I drove by. My M38A1 is an old man magnet! I was getting ready to leave one day, wife already in the car, engine running, and an old man pulls up to look at the jeep. "Can I see the engine? Can you start it up?" ...etc. a fifteen minutes later, I joined my wife in the car. Of course, she gave me 'the look'. It's like that every time I take it out of the barn! Get used to it.

I have noticed the old man magnet aspect of the jeep, fortunately most of them have good stories. I went with state farm on my insurance because I was too young for the JC Taylor, they did $75 per 6 months with a $50 deductible so I was pretty pleased with that.

I was going to go with the historic tags but it was not much more money and I plan on driving the jeep to places other than car shows so I went with the regular plates.

This post previously held a stupid question but I can not figure out how to delete the post so I have just edited it to get rid of my stupid question.

Nice looking A1 man! Mine is currently going through a frame off resto. I called around for insurance before buying and here is what I came up with.

Check out American Classic Insurance. I heard about them through USAA. They have restrictions on it, but they aren't bad. When my A1 is up and running I'm going to use them. It's basically like $85 for the year. You can't:
Make it a daily driver
Tow anything
attach tools to it (like a plow)

You can:
Take it out for enjoyment
Shows/Parades or other functions
Maintenance drives.

Driving during the week and get pulled over? A state trooper of Virginia told me to tell the officer that I was taking it on a "Maintenance drive." I plan on driving mine to and from work every once in a while (45 minute drive), and then to shows and parades. So this works for me. Figured I'd let all the SS know about it as well.

I went with statefarm. It was only $74 for 6 months with a $50 deductable and $6k in coverage. The other 6 months it will be in storage for winter so that will only be $20 or so. I am only 22 so I imagine it will drop further in a few years.

My radiator is in the shop getting recored right now and a shipment with new hoses and an oil filter assembly is on its way. Next week the a1 will be hitting the streets again. My next projects are to get the gauges working, go through the brakes, and start pulling dents out of the body.

:grd: So you CAN get them re-cored now - thats good to know! Slow and steady - keep her rollin'
You can get them recored but you will be a double amputee after you pay them for it. I am just excited to get it out on the road. So far I have driven it 3 times, 2 of which ended with it being pushed back home. One time it overheated and the other it ran out of gas, both while my brother was driving... I don't think I will let him drive for a while, the jeep does not like him
