Yet another MEP805B issue I need advice on

My genset had a bad I/O module but before replacing it, I could crank and start it. After replacing that it will crank, start briefly but immediately shut down with a low oil pressure alarm however I know the oil pressure is good. Tried to start it with the battle short switched on but that did not allow the engine to even crank let alone run. I have pulled the oil pressure sender out only to find direct replacements to be around $600 which I will pay if I must but could there be other senders which could also work or is there a way I can test the one I have? Could the problem be another module in the control cabinet?

Did you reset the fault indicator each time you had the fauld before trying to restart? I have pulled the oil pressure sender out only to find direct replacements to be around $600 which I will pay if I must but could there be other senders which could also work or is there a way I can test the one I have? Could the problem be another module in the control cabinet?

Try holding the fault reset up, hold it up, and then try and start it. What happens?

I would almost guarantee there is a functional equivalent for that oil pressure sender for less money. If you are searching by NSN number, you are probably getting results for parts that meet every section of MIL-STD-810 and than some. There are pretty extreme temperature, vibration, dust, water, and corrosion requirements. Many sensors can work, but they are not tested and guaranteed to function under all conditions, yet would work just fine for you.

From info I have the OP sensor is a 3 wire sensor. Not the typical 2 wire type. The three wires are Ground, +12 volts and the sensor output signal which is 1-5 volts proportional to the OP.

Whats the NSN and Part Number of the switch?

Does the I/O module show the heartbeat light flashing? Do the actuator and speed sensor lights flash or light on?

I think, and its been a long time since I look at a set, that the I&O has a heartbeat and the actuator and speed sensor lights come on and stay on.

Still haven't verified if mine is in fact bad but I may buy one regardless if your asking price is reasonable?

Remember this control system was designed and built in the mid 90's and Cat was the only real provider and we liked the Cat system , but guess what Cat wouldn't sell us the system unless they retained all control and parts and would not share programming . But the biggest deciding factor was they [Cat] were just getting into parallel operation and we were already well ahead of developing that on our own, so we were glad when we got in trouble and became short on time that GAC stepped forward and took on the whole control scheme .. As it turns out that to me was the best decision we made to getting the system qualified and into production..

All the while TRC was waiting in the background for us to let them build the control system and i was adamant TRC not be continued to be the sole source for the next generation of MEP gen sets.

I have replacement units here but would need your unit to test first in a test jug we have and i can give you a unit, no need to pay for one at the price you mention.
More background than you likely wanted but that's how we got to where we are today 25-30 yrs later and now seeing these units in the Surplus market.. mac/mc MC II

Sure worked a lot better than some of the more current operating systems. Of course you have to understand memory management and other basics for Win95 to run well - but now days - with everything hidden people are "stupider" than ever before. Hmmmm... Wonder why that is?
