I am sorry and I am sure I will get flamed but I have no time for someone who will destroy perfectly good trucks to begin with let alone rare one's. Wonder how many of those Mexicans are legal? I would be more than happy to pay scrap price to get a decent truck. Everybody wants a quick buck today instead of taking the parts and selling them to people who need them. Yea it takes a little longer to make the money but you make more and give less to the freakin Chinese!

Frankly I don't like your tone, you don't know the whole story and to this point there were no pictures. Insinuating that Pete (Glen's new boss) hires illegals is just stirring the pot, and really has no place in the thread. As for selling to the Chinese, little hard not to when they are the only ones buying. The only thing made in American anymore is Porn and Liquor. You have a problem with that do something about it, throwing sticks at Glen isn't the solution.

Glen goes well out of his way to help this community and its forum members, he does so for very little gain. It's not exactly the high life wading through mud to pull parts on a rusted, broken truck that Uncle Sam put 5+ coats of CARC on. I applaud Glen for what he has done both to help me and others. I can't thank him enough.

However when I log on and see posts like yours it really irks me, especially with no data to back up your claims. The trucks are publicly (sorta) available, don't complain the scrappers are buying them all when you aren't opening your wallet.

Glen doesn't need me to fight his battles, in fact if I had to face him in the ring, I'd loss. That's not the point, the point is SS is like family. We have good members and bad members, and Glen is definitely not a bad egg.

How many other scrapyard boss's have and active account on SS. The answer is probably one, Glen is helping the community, but not everything is worth saving. And we all need to take care of our families.

I have to agree ! When I posted awhile back about the same issues, it was not a slam on our end of the problem, it was on the end of our society not building or manufacturing anything but throwaway crap ! If the markets dictate that the only manufacturers are overseas, well, there it all goes.

Who has the space, money or time to stockpile all of our rusted, wrecked and obsolete taxpayer funded junk ? If there is a need for it to someone, I agree, open your wallet and step up . . . I had an idea that this is what this forum of members do ! It is always easy to armchair quarterback the guy actually doing something in the public eye, what if our wasteful Uncle Sam was just crushing it all and giving it away in the form of "Foreign Aid" ? Would we really ever know about it ?

This whole thread started with one SuperGreat Member, trying to help another member accomplish a goal and dream, and to try and save a truck that was bought and predestined to end up just the way it did . . . but it was an act of giving and done in the spirit of being helpful, and knowing the man, I can GUARANTEE that he feels as terrible about it as well as the future owner.

The old saying still holds true about counting your chickens, and do not see any constructive purpose in adding posts that just make both sides feel worse, guilty, or are just plain annoying on top of an already tragic situation !

To Glen, Mr. and Mrs. Indy4X4Fab, (Aubrey and Rick), sorry to hear the bad news.

The yard manager told the Mexicans in the yard to cut the boxes off of the M820s. They butchered the M810 too.

That is what I based my statement on. I know an American or two that have been out of work for over a year so yes I am a little cranky. I have friends who lost their jobs to Mexicans.

I have been looking for a good 109 or expandable for a long time and the prices I am seeing are nowhere near 4500.00

Nobody on here knows me, I was recovering vehicles for people when it was DRMO and long before this site was even thought of, long before the internet was even thought of. I have helped more than my share of people. Now with the internet and recoveries being the "IN" thing everyone is known for what they do. I am a nobody, I can not physically do it anymore.

Glenn, I am sorry for coming down on you, I just don't understand why a persons restoration project would be put with trucks on the way to the crusher. I realize you have to make a living too and it just happens to be in the scrap business.

I can say it was not my intention to insult anyone but after looking back I really can't say that.

It does not matter, it was a pending sale and a lot of work ahead for Indy. The frame was good and may still be. The engine was an unknown. I tried to bump start it and slid the tires, so that may be toast as well. It was full of coolant and oil felt clean, no grit.

The box was decent but the truck's tin was sad. I think the salt water exposure ate this one up. Big rust holes!

As for the illegals, they have valid Kansas driver's licenses, they have SOC numbers. They are on the payroll and pay taxes and FICA like the rest of us do. Like the farm workers, these guys work hard for what they get paid, for what anybody gets paid for that matter. They came with another recycling business we bought out. They know the job and do it well. They are at work on time, everyday, sick or not. They have a need and are willing to work to satisfy that need. Our nation once had a population that was that way. Sadly we lost it through big labor unions, welfare plans, SSI, and a the world owes me a living attitude.

The truck was in the far northeast corner of the yard, with several 820s. Indy was going to swap out the tin, no small project, the tires, fix the brakes, try to get it running, while out here on vacation. A very ambitious project in an area with no power for tools. That is why we left it close to the other five tons. I lost a cab full of windshield frames and box windows. That was my fault for storing the stuff at the yard. It is a tough loss, but like I told Indy, there are much better trucks for a lot less out there. That was weeks before this happened. Glen

EVERYONE NEED TO GET OFF GLENS A$$. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, it's not like he had this hole thing planned to build my hopes up, and then crush them. As Nick stated before, "It was an accident, I didn't want money being exchanged until we had our hands on it". Nick wanted to put money down on it and I told him NO, just in case this happened. What's to say that we wouldn't have had it payed in full a full 4000 dollars and the same thing could have happened, or it might still be around. There are several members on here as well as my hubby how are helping us to find anther truck that would be as cool of a project truck as it, or find a replacement camper truck. Nick has shown me several pictures of what his truck would look like with a camper box on the back like the deuce campers. We have found several trucks that are bigger or are not as rare but, could be fun projects. There's a 5 ton that's for sale in the classifieds that's closer to use the Kansas, that would make for a good camper build, that we have been talking to junkyardwars (jeff) about that a Koren War era truck. That's not worth restoring but would be a good starting bases for a camper build. Long story short, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, these things happen, as so many people on her have found out, we can't save them all from the crusher, but we can save a few. And that's what matters.

I think your good ! My rant months ago was about the history and politics of resources and materials, with a heavy lean on the scrap business, though I truly understand the need, and yours seemed kinda' familiar !

Indy asked me to grab some photos, maybe seeking closure. It seems like rubbing salt in an open wound to me. These photos are going to show just how rusty that cab was. I pulled into the yard just in time to watch the box hit the crusher a few days ago. He wanted me to pull the wheels for him, when I got there this morning,the truck was sitting on its roof. I asked them to flip it back on its wheels. This poor truck has just been beat to death. Somehow the transmission case is broken, lube was leaking... Glen

Indy wanted the wheels, I pulled them for him. If he does not take them, I will save them for a future M818 or M813 project. I have been drooling far too long, it is about time to get into the world of the big brother.

On a side note and I am not sure how you would ever check or become aware of this.... I was looking at the truck today, actually pulling the alternator and black box, along with some other goodies. Several of the rivets in the frame have popped. The frame does not appear to have rotted at all, but some of the rivets have. Granted, it has been getting some very rough treatment by the tracked vehicles bullying it around, but I never saw rivets fail like that before. Some looked rusty, some just look crystallized. It caught my attention and made me think about how hard some of these trucks have been worked, the body is horrible as far as rust and corrosion, but I "thought" the frame looked good. Just something for everybody to keep in the back of their mind, they are not new and we really are just assuming they are still solid. Glen

That is a very good point for you guys that like to wheel your trucks and twist them all to ****. You might want to take a good look at those rivets and also for any rust tracks where the frame pieces connect that might indicate movement. The rivets can be replaced with like sized grade 8 bolts so if they are missing it is not the end of the world.
