Does your emergency brake smell like cat urine?

i finally got around to replacing the parking brake cable on my deuce since it had been stretched/frayed and wasnt working. and i pulled away down my driveway to our farm and of course engaged it to make sure it was working and i started smelling my clothes thinking i layed in something. Then i drove around for an hour in the mud of the feilds and engaged it again before parking and smelled it again. Thats when i realized what it was. Does anyone else smell that awful? It's such a distinct smell. I started laughing.

On a side not these parking brakes are incredible. It will actually STOP the vehicle abruptly and take ALOT of effort to overcome it with the clutch. I was thoroughly impressed, they are borderline air-brake parking brakes.

Also to anyone who has replaced a cable, for something so simple, its soooo hard haha. Everything is in the perfectly wrong position to reach with a ratchet/wrench so i noticed.

Did you use the tech manual to adjust everything properly? Do you have all 3 springs in place?

Nope i didnt. I took a look at it, decided how it should fuction, and replaced and adjsuted it accordingly. It lockes up all both drive axles completely and doesnt drag at all so i figured it was working. I will check it out tomorrow and see if i did it right. Everything was intact as far as i could tell, just the cable was frayed and couldnt be adjusted into lock up. I can turn drum by hand and barely hear tt drag and when i engage lever it will lock up the 8 drive wheels on gravel/dirt.

I saw this head line and just had to read it...I was thinking, "what ever on earth were you doing smelling your E-brake?" lol...

Oh and be careful how you reply when asked about using tech manuals..I have a feeling your about to get an earfull on that subject. Might as well just go and by you one each of the three.. the -10 the -20 and -35 they are cheap and they are VERY helpfull. [thumbzup]

Ive reviewed most online, if the emergency brakes lock up when fully engaged, and doesnt drag when driving they are working IMO. i'll read the manual tomorrow, the system isnt all too complex, just poorly deisgned IMO

Heck, they're free to download, right here on SS.

And even if they "work", unless you look at the TM, you won't know if yours are all there(all components).

It really is necessary(in the long term) to have all 3 springs.

Please clarify who you took the shower with the 1 dead chicken, one of the dead skunks or the other human you mentioned (preferably of the opposite sex but hey I am not one to judge)[thumbzup]
