The Fire Department obviously took care of it, but with it being a NG truck it may be possible the mileage is acurate.

Anyone with an idea of when they changed speedometers or hours meters on trucks? Did they do it when they did a rebuild, or on an as needed basis?

Peter to answer your question, I believe yes to both. I have owned a '71 and '68 M35A2's that were both 1990's rebuild truck from Tooele Army Depot. Both truck had "matching" hour and mileage gauges. When I mean rebuild, they were rebuilt from the ground up. Many of the M923's coming out of Red River Army Depot are not rebuild trucks. They appear to just go through and get the updated MWO's (conacted them personally about their 5 ton program). The gauges are not changed out.

Thank you for the insight. I wondered because the speedo in my 68 5T has about 1600 miles on it and there are 85 rebuild tags on this truck. the color of the speedo is not the same as the rest of the dash components, so was thinking that they changed it at the rebuild time. the engine and busted PTO case both have 85 rebuild dates as well.

1977 M886. Mechanically it is pretty good, but the over the cab piece has a dent and it could use a paint job. Here is a partial picture from the 2-11 hamburger run. don't have many pictures of it, as it is not as photogenic as the 42.

A guy that I work with has a M886. Currently it's painted caution yellow and before he got it, it belonged to Mason County as an emergency response vehicle. When he got it through GSA it had a S250 shelter on the back and a light bar on the cab.

The light bar is now on my Blazer, but sadly he sold the shelter and the last I heard, the guy that bought still has it but hasn't done anything with it.

Ok Dale, I finally quit slacking off and got back to work on the truck. Scott and Ed came over and we were able to get the top on.

The Great Pacific Northwet was living up to it's name today. At least the truck bed will be nice and dry now...

this truck came from the Randle area. Saw it peeking out from behind a barn. The owner had bought it through DRMO in 1988. It supposedly ran, but we ended up pushing it on a friends trailer with a log skidder. Got home and got to inspecting and changing fluids, it was the first time that I had seen black gas. Cleaned the tank, new lines, new fuel pump, new carb, plugs, wires, pickup module and it ran well. It had an issue with not wanting to start which ended up being two things, new pickup module was bad, and a medical safety pin had fallen through a space in the dash and lodged on the wires going to the ammeter. When the truck flexed right, it would short out the ammeter and no start. Find that one in the TM's. I bought it in 98 and except for a fuel line problem, it has been running well since then. Also replaced the starter and alternator.

We had to cut the square tube on the brackets I made down to 3" and took 4" of the bottom of the top support uprights.
Apparently the top Jeepzilla has is taller than the one I put on. I realized this after we got everything on and the side flaps were too short. once we trimmed the brackets and poles everything fit perfectly.
