I got a lead for a parts truck for my m1008. It's here in PA. The guy said it's an m1008 but it has an np205 runs well but the body and frame are shot. I'm thinking it's probably an m1028 and he doesn't know it. the only thing the guys knows is that it was used at a race track and only has 20k miles on it. He's going to part it out or sell it whole. said he'd like to get 2k for it whole. does that sound worth it? if I buy it i'll probably put the d60 with LSD in my truck as well as the np205 and the heavier rear springs. looking at this tomorrow around noon. any input would be appreciated.

Look at the 4th charachter in the vin.

If it is a G, it is an M1008 with open front dif

If it's an H, it's an M1028, or M1031 With the LS front dif

I thought only the M1031's had the 205 case for the PTO function. I could be wrong. I've heard the 205 is the desired case due to it not having a chain to break. Not that a stock 6.2 could break a chain but stronger drivetrain components are better.

T cases are easy to change, vins are not.

He's looking for the better front differential.

But then again, axles are easy to change as well.

I would not pay 2k for a parts truck maybe 1200 because of the dana 60, but for 2k i would look for a running and driveable truck.

in this area they are hard to find, being the rust belt. they had a couple m1031 and m1010 at ft. meade MD they went for about 4k each. m1008 around here are usually no less then 4-5K in stock shape haha.

my m1008 paid 2200 for in "ready to roll" condition but that was 4 years ago from govliquidation. if he won't take 1500 i'll see what he wants for the d60 and the np205 if he will take them off. if not prob just walk away.

If everything else is shot, you might be able to recoup some in scrapping the bad frame and what's left. Not that I'm an advocate of it, but there comes a point in time where it's just not possible.

Obviously, shoot low, but if it's the parts you want and there's low supply and high demand... well...

The front axle with the LSD and the 205 and a working T-400 as well as the Rear corp 14 with the locker make about $1,600 - $1,800 in value if the axles and T-case are good and operable.
The first person that comes along may not buy but eventually one does come along and buy the goods. I get $1,000 - $1,200 for the open 60 and corp 14 from the CUCV and that is cheap!2cents

Here in Mass $2000 is a steal for a running & driving M1028 regardless of the rust.
The axles alone sell for $1500 around here.
