I just wanted to say thanks for this forum being such a great resource.

The story began as I was driving down the road and my gauges started bouncing around everywhere. I figured it was a ground issue. I reached up behind the dash and wiggled the wires a little bit and the gauges started working just fine. Then it happened again and then they stopped working all together. Anyway, I looked up behind there and couldn't really tell that anything was the matter. So, I searched the forums. I did several searches and finally found a thread that gave descriptions of where all the numbered wires went to, which were supposed to be hot, etc.

I even searched for "spider" as I didn't know what else to call that thing behind the dash that distributes power (I initially thought it was a ground). Anyway, I learned about all the wiring behind the dash on these trucks and found out that my spider didn't have power. It turns out that the 27 wire that goes into the spider, at the connection to the spider had came loose. I suppose someone along the way had unplugged it and hadn't put it back together all the way. Eventually it vibrated apart enough to lose connection. So, plugged it back in and all voila, all my gauges work. I'm not sure I would have ever figured this out without these forums.

Thank you all again!!

I like the forums as well and have been helped a lot. This is the first forum i have been a member of that berates you for asking questions so much so that every post starts out with "I have tried searching". There is something different about the search function on this particular forum though as it seems to pick up every thread. There are never less than 11 pages on any of my searches. I am glad to be a member but it can be a little difficult at times.

I'll be honest, I almost gave up on the search but I finally found a thread. Maybe my search-fu is weak. If I remember correctly, I think it was a search for "spider ground gauges" that finally paid off. Anyway, I'm sure everything has been covered here 5 times, so that's probably why us newbs get berated. That's okay, I can take it!!

Hey now, I don't know how anybody could not benefit from being part of this forum. I've been a member here for a month or so but been a lurker much longer and I just recovered my first deuce via a road trip of over 550 miles. Because of the wealth of information on here I felt there was nothing that I couldn't handle with what I have learned.

One of the problems with search is the horrible spelling in the thread titles by users who won't take the time to get it right. The new Google search is helping but new people (and me) sometimes have a hard time.

When you have been on the site long enough and see post after post after post after post after post after post of the exact same question when it actually is easily found using search then you will know why so many have a low tolerance for seeing the same thing over and over.

Glad the OP got it fixed.

PS - You forgot people also point out reading the manuals. ;-)

Yeah LOL, read the manuals. Just like everyone who buys a new car reads the 1 inch thick book that comes in the glove box. I am on a bunch of forums and I try to help when I see something I have experience with. If I have nothing constructive or funny to say I just scroll right on by and don't even click on the topic to open. I don't know if it is a age thing or maybe lots of vets (I am one too) ? It is definitely a different dynamic but I am learning.

OP, hats off to you for digging, it's much tougher when you don't really know the common terms here. I'm not impressed by the Google Search at all. Still can't search for 2 terms and get a decent search. There needs to be a way to search for Deuce and turbo not deuce or turbo. I prefer the advanced search where I can narrow my searches by forum. There is just no sense searching every single forum for something I know is CUCV related. Searches would also be more productive if folks used relevant titles. Whatever the subject of the thread is, needs to be in the title. Not "Deuce Question" but "Deuce Alternator Question". Sadly, a good portion of the forum members just refuse to follow these simple guidelines to help make the site better.

This is not new but it works- Go to the Google website and type the following in the search box:

site: www.steelsoldiers.com[url] (space) ...t the separate words. Hope that helps! Mark
