That's funny. I'm riding the Greyhound to Union Station, DC. I am scared sh#tless to do this so I am surely not driving my truck down there. I sure wish someone would meet me at the West Lawn of the Capitol on October 12th at noon. I could use the support. What I am doing is for all of us. JT
JT, if you get locked up can I go to your place and borrow the excavator with the thumb?

This is another example of the alleged news media making a mountain out of a molehill.

There was an Honor Flight out of Syracuse yesterday and as early as Friday the local media was saying that they would be able to visit the WWII memorial as part of "a First Amendment event". When they got there a few of the folks escorting the vets got off the bus, removed part of the "DO NOT CROSS" tape and everything went smoothly.

I was fortunate enough to escort a WWII B24 tail gunner on an Honor Flight last fall on the same trip Tank Lady's hubby Jack went on. There were maybe 6-7 Honor Flight and similar veteran's service organizations there during the hour or so we were at that memorial. I doubt I'll ever see that many WWII and Korean War vets in one place again.

You have moral support from here John.

I think I have mentioned before that a WWII bomber pilot gave me his Lancaster training manual to find a home for because he was afraid his family would just throw it away. I could find no museum that wanted it so I have kept it for the last couple of years.

I am honored to be the keeper.

Gents:

As to the WWII Memorial Storming incident, nicely arranged with free publicity by the morally turpitudinous politicians that caused the shut down in the first place. As to Mr. Obama and the NPS forbidding their visit, that had to happen due to the shut-down forced on the Government. May I say, gentlemen, that there does not exist two sets of laws, one for the common man, and one for the Congressman from Mississippi, his associates, and the WWII vets, there is only one law.

AND when the government shut-down at the behest of the politicos in question, there was not a legitimate reason or way for the WWII vets to visit the site without breaking the closure law. That is the way a democracy works, the law applies to everyone. It seems that some people believe, and possibly quite correctly, that we are veering towards an oligarchy, where there are two sets of laws, one for the rich, and one for the rest of us.

The World War II vets are the ones who probably wouldn't have tolerated the shenanigans going on today politically, but you may be sure that speaking as one of the National Park Rangers, it would be very unlikely that they would have been arrested for visiting their memorial, but the congressmen....Should've locked them up and thrown away the key! I posit the Congressman from Mississippi be the first resident of the dark cells at Alcatraz.

If you have a youngster who's bound to be a criminal or suffer other delinquencies, bring them up right as a politician! That way they can earn money and be completely useless. I regret that the politicians of the old school, say Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and even L.B.J. would not be caught associating with these folks who forget that they are the servants of the American People, not the masters.
Perhaps a new Living History demonstration cell block at Alcatraz?:naner:

Contact SS member Needles. He is at the Cavanaugh Flight museum in TX and I would think he could find a home for the Manual.

I did find it interesting that none of the Moderators on here deemed it necessary to shut down the thread, as the whole subject was rather political in the way the closure was arranged, and the way the perpetrators slunk off after the two weeks of shut down. Democracies are not run for small numbers in the lunatic fringe, they belong to everyone, regardless of income or party, and the laws should equally likewise apply to very member of the body politic. My parents both served in WWII, and fortunately neither of them lived to see either the other two, or this latest example of a new government operational fashion called a "Shut Down" to force issues that should be done by rational discussion and bilateral agreements. They likely would have gone to DC to tear up the congressmen!

Most states don't have civics classes anymore, perhaps that is a matter to reconsider? Mr. Jefferson feared neither a free press or an informed electorate.

Now that this thread is active again, I will answer a previous question: I went to protest an unacceptable situation in the White House.

My AAR: I was well accepted by hundreds of people of all races, photographed at least a hundred times and face booked al over the place.

April 1st 2014 I will be in Albany New York dealing with a local state problem at the Gubners mansion

Thank all of you for your support or tolerance of my beliefs, JT
