Sorry to revive an old thread, but reading through it was very informative. I have owned a Chevy Sport van (G-20) with a 6.2L diesel engine in it, and a full-on fuel making factory mounted to its bumper. It has had to be towed about 3x/year, and I had AAA the whole time, and only one driver refused to tow it. See pic below. So, when I set off to purchase my M756A2 300 miles from home, I upgraded from AAA plus to AA RV. 150 miles on my way back with my M756A2 I had a blow out on a front tire. I had a spare, but I had to travel light to get the vehicle, so I had no tools, no jack, etc.

So, I called AAA. They told me they do not tow military vehicles. I reminded the operator that the description of their AAA RV includes off-road vehicles, experimental vehicles, and trucks with campers. So, they sent out a tow truck.

The light flat bed tow truck driver arrived and would not tow the vehicle; however, he spent an hour calling every tow service in the Phoenix area to see if he could find someone who would at least help me jack up the truck, and remove the flat and install the spare that I had. None would.

So, not having a bunch of Steel Soldier friends, I called a mechanic friend who drove 150 miles, and brought a 1" socket set, a 10' 1" pipe nipple as a cheater bar, and a 20 ton jack. We got the flat off and the spare mounted and the flat loaded, then I found that the batteries were crap, and the battery lugs were not even tightened, so that one of the batteries shorted out, so I could not start the truck. I called AAA again and they informed me that none of their tow trucks can give a 24 volt jump. So, my friend drove me to a nearby Box Store where I bought 2 new batteries. I got the truck running and drove it the rest of the way home with no issues.

But, it would be useful to all of us if we came up with a back-up plan. Or, filibustered AAA to tow us on their RV package.

Is there anything that we can carry with us to help a tow truck driver tow a deuce? I am thinking of a medium duty tow bar, or just make sure we have the 1” Airlift Bumper Shackles, which my deuce does not have? Or, is there some thing else?

One of the first bits of free advise I was given when I got into the MV hobby was , Have a tow company ready on speed dial for when you have your "FLAME OUT" . I have a local HD tow company that has towed my vehicles no problem . When I got the DEUCE , first thing I did was take a drive over and show him my ride and make sure he could handle it . As they say it's not IF it brakes down , but WHEN . Pays to prepare .

If you have haggerty insurance and have their 30 $ plus package, they will tow it for free up to 10 miles and will do the roadside assistance stuff.

I have Hagerty and opted for the Premium Plan that covers the first 50 miles of guaranteed flatbed towing and covers the first $100 of other roadside services like fuel delivery, battery jumps and lockout service, I didnt do this for just my M35 as I have several other cars with them. Hagerty knows what a M35 is and they verified that it is covered.....I dont know about Flatbed, but we do have big rig wreckers in my area. I usually dont take it much further than that from home but if I do I have it loaded with tools and spare parts to make most repaires roadside, it it is major, I have a towbar and a Brother-In-Law with log trucks.

I am also a member of the BMW Motorcycle owners of America (BMW MOA) and I do like that they have the annual book that have a list of members, services they can provide and phone numbers. It is listed buy State and then by City. This would not need to be a printed book and I would prefer it be a PDF that I can carry on my phone. I know I am pretty alone out here on the Oregon Coast but would be nice if somebody out here needed help.
