My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

That depends on what the ball valve is made of. There are plenty of plastics that don't mind diesel. Delrin & Zytel are both used in ball valves, and both are compatible with diesel.

My question is this, will this ball valve, the 1/2" FPT x 1/2" FPT Ball valve - $7 (for super easy bleeding) hold up to the diesel fuel? I thought one might need a "fuel" compatible valve for that bleeder. I am hoping I am wrong !!

It's all brass.... Also, it's only used for bleeding.. So it won't be used that often... I'm a big fan of 'go big or go home'...

Make sure you get some oil/gas rated thread tape.

Would you mind taking a few pictures showing how you mounted the base with the L brackets? I have all the material including the brackets, this is my weekend project! Also just to confirm, the 1/4 line goes on the back of the base(> out) and the 3/8 goes in the front(< in)

Each base is different..but generally..yes

I used two L brackets. They're bolted together. I screwed one bracket to the firewall then measured and screwed the second bracket in...using self tapping screws. Then the other line bracket was bolted to the ones on the firewall. So it's now a U bracket....or rather..an n bracket..heh.

I did this mod as well. Bought the head and filters from gimpyrobb.
I made one mistake when I put the cap back onto the top of the filter head.
Somehow I didn't get the o-ring in the right place. It started up fine the first time, but the next day it wouldn't start. I finally tracked down the problem and so far so good.
Started right up after sitting for a day.

Somebody PM'd me about this, so I'll clarify here for all: It will work but it's not the best choice. You can get fragments into your IP, which isn't going to make it happy.

I am taking this man's advice and have ordered the peratex formagasket # 3 and I am going
to back out the fittings with the teflon tape and use the permatex. I really don't like the idea of teflon migrating to my IP.

I did the above as per Marcus and I am glad I did. I found lots of little pieces of teflon
tape just waiting to jump in my IP. I highly recomend doing the mod this way with
the formagasket aviation sealant and NOT the teflon tape.

Just a note to add to the spin on filter upgrade.
Be sure to tighten the little bleed screw on the front of the filter base.
I think I may not have closed it tight enough and air leaked in.
It is tight now, but since it is plastic, I didn't want to over tighten it.
I am still not positive this was my problem. If the problem returns, I'll
update this with corrections,

I haven't changed mine yet, but I'm wondering if I should as the truck seemed to be dogging climbing a steep hill today. Loooooooong steep hill at 60MPH, about 85 degrees out, truck couldn't maintain 60 and dropped to 53 before I got to the top and started down the other side.

Might be a filter, but might be normal for these trucks too.
