When I picked up my Mep-003a from GL the red cable was connected to the frame and black cable to the starter, which could give anyone good reason to double check.

Ditto - The very first MEP 002A I picked up also had the red cable connected to the chassis and the black cable to the starter. I wonder if somebody did this to be "cute" or what. I hooked the red cable to battery + and black cable to battery -. After rebuilding 8 MEP generators I know better, but on the first one I did not. I was fortunate I did not cause any permanent damage.
