Dual alternator and aux battery setup

Hey guys thought I would post some pictures of my dual alternator setup I did on my Air Force Suburban.

I used the bracket system from a cucv and a standard alternator from a 6.2 diesel and made my own bracket extension. I decided that instead of running a battery isolator, i would just use one of my spare alternators. The cucv bracket system was way cheaper then an isolator anyways. Then for my battery setup, I modified a spare battery tray and mounted it next to the coolant overflow bottle and moved the second starting battery there. Soon I will be getting a cucv battery tray for the front and just mounting both starting batteries there. Now I have a complete isolated power system for my lights, winch, power inverter, and anything else I might add.

Having a dedicated 12 volt alternator to charge a dedicated 12 volt battery sure is nice. I did that on my Deuce except i have it charging 3 deep cycle batteries. You never have to worry about discharging the battery and not being able to start the vehicle. If my batteries went dead, I would just start the truck back up and charge them. Its easy and is a tough system for powering things you described. Great Job! You will love it!

You have like 17 batteries on your truck. I think you are trying to apply for hybrid so you can drive in the HOV lane.

I even wired my manual glow plug override to my aux batteries, in case my starting batteries are down on power. I can even give myself a jump if needed. My goal is to have 2x aux batteries for extra power when camping. My front end is so heavy with 3 batteries and a winch, I will be upgrading to a dana 60 front to handle the weight

You have like 17 batteries on your truck. I think you are trying to apply for hybrid so you can drive in the HOV lane.

I have 5 batteries. 2 start batteries and 3 deep cycles for my 12 volt system.

After trying 3 of my spare alternators, I finally figured out that you have to have the battery hooked and and have the two wires hooked from the 12v out on the alternator to two clips on the side of the alternator to finally getting it charging? Did I do this right? An alternator needs 12v to start charging in the first place?
