m35a2 advice needed

OK everybody. I talked to the owner of the truck today. He thinks its actually a 60's-70's kiaser but he isn't sure the title says its a 1954 AM General. ( It did sort of stump him when I said that AM General didn't come to be until 1971 I don't think he is a MV Freak.) He has had the truck 4 months, said that the air pack was unhooked by the PO, the air shift transfer case shifts like it should and the transmission shifts like it should and doesn't grind, scream, or complain. He said that on the 60 mile drive home with it that the brakes where very weak, and he drained, filled, bleed, and he says now that if you drive it down the road and slam the pedal that it will either stop the truck quickly or lock up both rear axles. He has never used the winch but the drum isn't locked up and the drum will move in free spool. He's not sure whats wrong with the blinkers but is going to look into it this weekend. it doesn't leak any fluids and the heater is missing the parts from under the hood.

I kind of like the truck but I didn't buy the first pickup that I saw and I was thrilled I did wait and keep looking so that's what im going to do for right now and keep looking for another truck.

So thank you all.

Why pass on it? You'll have to do all the same work to any other truck you might get anyway... Unless you were to buy a truck from someone that has already done it all, like me. But you won't get one already done for anywhere near that low of a price.

I'm sort of going on the pay more get more thing. I didn't buy the first truck I saw when I was looking for a pickup and I'm very glad I waited. I might still get this truck I'm just going to see what else I find first.

I'm just curious as I have no intentions of selling my M35A2. What would be the going price for a solid runner, radial tires, minimal rust? I went the GL route on my truck so I paid $1,045 out the door. I replaced the tires, touched up some paint, added a muffler and a canvas cover. I'm just curious and wondering how much these trucks have appreciated.

Sir, the price was in 2009 dollars. I'm sure it's worth more than $2,090 now that it's had it's upgrades. Sorry for the Hi-Jack. CUCVLOVER, these trucks get cheaper by the day. Yes, you can find them on sale on online auction sites for higher prices but I've found quite a few for better prices by just looking around. The sudden release of the M939 series of trucks have depressed the prices somewhat and in my opinion, that gentleman wants top dollar for a questionable truck.

Its OK I've been jumped on before for what I thought wasn't a hyjack so I won't get on ya.
I'm going to look around and see what I can find. I look at it like when me and my dad where trying to find a bass boat. We kept looking and looking and several we looked at got bought before we decided if we wanted it and there will always be another one, and finally we found what we wanted. Anyway I'm rambling so back on topic.
I have found a couple others for a decent price and I'm going to check out GL. I'm in no hurry soo..

Thanks

I don't know about prices out where you are, but out here in the Pacific Northwest M35's are a hot commodity ! Now that GL is no longer selling any (none left) the prices have only gone up ! Especially when you consider the licensing fees you need to pay for a 5 ton versus a 2.5 ton truck.

How has GL ran out of m35a2?
I haven't seen any for sell for over 2 years now. When I got my last one in 2013 they said there would be no more from Fort Lewis. They where all gone. Maybe out east there still are some for sell. Now with this other company selling all the military trucks at only 5 locations I have not seen any deuces either.

I was only kidding, not trying to insult you. Good condition trucks, with only maybe a couple of upgrades and most or all of the service work done easily pull $7000 now. A decent runner with good body, no upgrades, and little of the services done are starting around $5000. With the rust and questionable brakes, and complete lack of service... That truck would be worth $1500 if it didn't have the winch. The winch kit bumps the value. Looks like it has decent tires too. I don't care if you buy it, I'm not pushing you, nor am I going to buy it. Just sharing my thoughts.

Mr. Sandcobra, my apologies.

Ft. McCoy had a couple of M35's this past summer.

There is a guy selling a nice 1984 5 ton on facebook right now for $4k!!! If I didn't already have my cargo truck, I'd be all over that.

I would like to find the frame # on my m34 too but where under all the rust is it, that one looks not to bad over all.

I agree with jeepsinker. Without that winch and all the parts associated with it that truck is just a parts truck. The body parts are going to cost you if you have to buy from the Surplus people. The electrical alone can be a chunk of change. Parts truck.

I agree too that's why I have decided to part out my M35A2, stay tuned to the parts for sale list.:driver:
I would be lucky to get 2k for it, and I need the parts for my M34/M756A2.
