I just dragged my M1038 home this afternoon. I used a 7500# rated U-Haul trailer. I fibbed about what I was towing since most here haven't had issues. My truck has BFG Baja's on it and I can tell you that it won't "barely" fit between fenders and actually sat up on the edge with about 3" or so hanging off the side.

I was 3 hours from the house and took it home anyway - which I now think was rather foolish. Would I do it again? Nope-I'll get a more appropriate trailer for when my other truck gets approved. It's just not worth it if there were issues.

Thanks Lawdog734!
I am no longer on the fence about what to do.
My trailer deserves an overhaul anyways.

Another truck? resale?
how long did you wait for the first one to get approved? I'm told it can take up to 4months with the current backlog.
I might sell mine if a better one shows up at auction but it seems rare to beat $8k for one with under 8k miles that starts without jumping and has no leaks, blow-by, or abused appearance..

It was dark by the time I got home last night, alas - no pics or showoff thread just yet.

I know that it seems that there are a lot of complaints about Iron Planet, many of which appear to be legit - but I have to say that my experience was that it was rather painless. If I had a gripe, it would be that I didn't know I'd have to wait for EUC clearance, but reading here prior to my purchase gave me some situational awareness. I won my auction on July 20 and was approved for pickup on September 16, so it was just shy of 60 days for me.

Regarding the other truck, no it's not for resale. I just wanted another one. I'm going to do one as a guntruck and the other as a 4-door soft-top. While they're seemingly going for cheap now as long as you shop smart and don't emotionally tie yourself to an auction, it'll be immediately worth more when it's cleaned up, tuned up and gets a paint job. They'll make good items to pass down to my kids one day and if I needed to sell, I know I'll at least get out of it what I have in it. Who knows what it might be worth in 20, 30 or 40 years - remember when MB/GPW's and M38's didn't cost hardly anything?

Let me know if you post pics!

From what I've read, the military still has over 250,000 of them. and although they are being phased out slowly, I wonder how the market price will be affected if eventually that many wind up in the public domain. I'm guessing that the phase out might speed up if more new vehicles like the JLTV are purchased to replace them?
Are they all destined for auction?

The demil code for vehicles considered to be armament carriers prevents them from being auctioned. A DRMO friend I have told me that he keeps them to the side of his lot and they're eventually picked up for destruction in Anniston, AL. So how many Armament carriers versus non-armament? I don't know. How many of that amount is given away/sold to other countries or how many end up on a bombing range? Who knows. I'm sure they'll continue to be sold, but I don't see the market becoming truly flooded with them. Regardless, I have a fun toy that'll cool to tinker with a ride with the fam.

I haven't even picked mine up and already I'm hunting for parts to make it premium:driver:. If I ever decide to sell, it will probably be contingent on getting another one.
