Will be doing some updates on M939 A2s this week. Also if you need the spreadsheet. Open it thru tapatalk on your iphone or android and open it with "google drive" it will allow you to download load it directly to your phone.

I had just added it when you sent it. My system didnt find the napa number but my phone program automatically takes the number you gave me. Transferred it to a NSN then finds that part number and supplier available. Thats all it found.

Replaced my 5 ton front driveshaft center support bearing today with a Spicer 212134-1X & all 3 u-joints with Spicer 5-279X (1610 series).

I added the center support bearing number to a B The spicer number you gave me transfers to the same number with a B on the end rather than the A. The 5-279X tab style joint is a Precision number 333 but I added it as an alternate number. I haven't looked for any new numbers on some of the first stuff I did back in 2012. I have been lazy :/ Thanks.

A center shaft bearing has Extra Dust Caps
B center shaft bearing has no dust caps.

Ok So I got the motivation to redo all of my U joints on my 5 ton today. Yes all 9 of them and a center shaft bearing. Yes I cried at the $800 in parts. No big deal. Made some changes to the driveshaft section of the page. After looking at several surplus places that list what "Tab joints go where" I come to the conclusion that all of the ones on the front axle shaft are 5-279X spicers as well as the rear rear axle. All the joints mic'd out to the same size. I have always found the rear rear axle to be different. Apparently not on my truck. I then tried the 212134-1x center shaft bearing that someone else used. Time I got it on it was so tight that it would not hardly even spin. I mean very tight. so I went with a 210084-2x an alternate number I have listed. I did not re install the dust caps on each end. Don't care to have em bent up and digging into the center bearing rubber.

I used CP85WB joints for the jackshaft. I had acquired some CP72 style joints for the jackshaft and they were too small. I then went out and checked a jackshaft out on an extra one I had laying around and the CP72 was the same. So there are different joints available apparently on 5 tons. Maybe for the 809 series trucks. I don't remember what the extra shaft was off of.

The CP85WB joints can't be gotten thru napa or Oreilly. Maybe carquest but I don't think those are around anymore. CP85WB is a meritor number so primarily truck pro.

I will find out tomorrow on the Transfer case to front tandem axle as I did not get around to it today. I did have to burn out all the joints today. They all were pretty much trashed out. I did keep an old jackshaft joint in case of a failure. I will update tomorrow.

Could I make a suggestion for the spreadsheet? Perhaps adding columns at the beginning of equipment applicability.
It does have the truck and or series in with the description. If it does not say 809 or 939 then it is for all . If it is for A2 only it will be in the A2 section at the bottom. If it is for the 809 is says 809 and 939 is 939A1 or whatever. If it is A0/1 specific then it will say so. The only difference in the A2 and A0/1 stuff is in relation to the engine mostly everything else is the same.

Added a listing of the temperatures of main drive components on a 5 ton under operating conditions.

Being that I make 300 to 500 mile non stop driving times with my truck and sometimes doing 2,000miles in 3 days. I have made it a habit of that when I get out of my truck to refuel or even do a safety check I grab my temp gun and do a walk around of everything. in a loud 5 ton sometimes you can not hear things over the axle and engine noises and your ear protection. This is how I see I may have a component failure before it actually happens. I just did 2,000 miles this past week. I checked all items and noticed a gradual increase in my U joint temperature at the front axle center shaft bearing. It was 120 degrees after the first 700miles then 160 on the way home and then about 80 miles from home I started getting a rattle while driving. Engaged the 6x6 and it ended. It occurred at certain speeds as well. Pulled it apart and it was pretty worn out and overheated. It was only about 2 months old.

This gradual increase of the temp let me know I had an issue and when I finally heard the noise I did not panic as I had a good inclination of what was going out. It helps to know what is going to fail before it ever does. All parts have their tell tell signs.

Good morning everyone. I have a 1984 M923 with the 5 speed allison. It has the 15/40 oil in it now. I want to change it over to the proper allison approved oil. I think it a dextron 4 or 6. Can anyone tell me what the best allison recomended fluid is. I am getting mixed advice. I know why the military used regular oil. But i also know that shortens the tranny life. Any help would be great. Thanks
