Intermittent ABS light issue

Hello to all!

I've had my 923A0 for about 3 years and it's behaved quite well.

About 2 weeks ago, the ABS check light stopped turning off after the brief illumination cycle ... but not every time.

I first noticed it after having parked overnight on a slight 4-degree downward hill. As I was only relocating the truck to a different part of the property, I wasn't overly concerned and figured I'd start troubleshooting the next day.

Fast forward to the next day, level ground, started it up and sure 'nuff, the light went off after the usual brief delay. I drove a few miles, parked on flat, and made a note to keep an eye the little bugger.

Two drive cycles later, no additional problem. And then it happened again.

I let the truck warm-up, did my walk around, let the air system charge, etc., light still illuminated. For grins-&-giggles I powered down - without moving it from current position - waited about 60-90 seconds, and started it up again ... light on, brief delay, light off. Drove around a bit, powered down ... and started hitting up SS.com and the TMs and try to figure out what's going on. ;-}

I found a bunch of great posts about others with ABS issues and am currently wading through them. I'm also reading TM 9-2320-272-23-2 and some of the other great docs on this site in anticipation of this weekend beginning my onsite troubleshooting.

In the meantime, I thought I'd post the description to see if anyone had also encountered something similar and/or to get another round of great advice and counsel, something like ... "you forgot to brim prong the mum fuzz on the dom knocker ... such a rookie mistake!!!"

TIA,

MAnders.

Detected errors can illuminate the light and then clear themselves over time. There is a diag port on the right side of the dash but it takes a special reader. Over voltage from the alternator will short out the abs computer over time so check your gage.

This is good info, I hadn't read that yet.

One of them fancy Haldex units, correct? I'm plowing through WP 0156 now to see how much progress I can make before having to track one of those down ...

I installed one of those aftermarket Delco 21SI alternators last year and it's putting out just enough juice, so I don't think over-voltage is an issue.

Thanks for the great info and speedy reply!

MAnders.

If you need a unit let me know. I have the relays over the rear axles as well.

Check connections on the abs system. They can get crud in them.

Given its intermittent, sounds like a bad connection to me, a short. Mine was at the computer connector. Without the code reader, I'd try the easy stuff first.

You could also put Stabilent 22 It is the best contact stuff you can buy. Using the liquid is the equal to soldering it together. The Napa # is CE1. It will keep dirt and everything out of it. I did it to every connection in my truck. Also doesn't take much of the stuff.
