Thanks for the reply, also I'm curious to know what the CB-1 push button does. I'm assuming it's a breaker reset but can not find any info on it.

It is the control power circuit breaker. It is mounted on a bracket behind the gauge panel near the center. It pops out like a turkey timer when it trips. Push in to reset.

Most people leave it alone all the time. When I shut off the set, the last step to shut down process is to pull CB-1 out. It reduces the amount of "hot" things in the control cube and around the set, and also seems, and this is just my opinion mind you, it seems to be kinder to the batteries. The sets I took care of almost always started up after long periods of idleness.

Thanks for the reply, I have started to use the Dead Crank switch to remove juice from all the components and alleviate anything still being hot. I just flip it to off instead of normal mode and it seems to cut power to everything.

Just as a quick note I called some distributors today to find replacement bulbs after ensuring the push-to-test switches had a reliable 24v going into them and the bulbs are a 327 midget flange 24v T-1-3/4 5mm bulb. Now the kicker is that LED's are sold in 10 packs that I could find so I didn't spend 60 dollars on bulbs. There is an aircraft site called air spruce. That sells the push-to-test switches with multicolor glass so you just buy two white LED's instead of tracking down a green and amber led. The push-to-test switches on this site are 33 dollars a piece so I justed decided to use white bulbs for both at about 6 bucks. They should last forever I hope. Just an update if anyone is wondering.

Some of the older, and all the newer sets have multicolored lenses. The LED's that we used to replace the 327's were white. I had some older sets, and some test equipment I made from scrap, that I simply looted press-to-test with colored lenses from the junkyard. It might pay to prowl around junk yards that have old military equipment just for the opportunity to do such a thing.

I have what some might think is a pretty dumb question, in 240v single phase operation on an 803 is each hot leg rated at 52 amps or is that both legs combined 52 amps? I have seen some people's YouTube videos showing an amp meter and some are pushing anywhere from 25-49 amps on a single leg. Just wondering what rated wire to use when hooking up the auto-transfer switch.

This really needs to be its own thread.

KV100ej,

You really will get more exposure when you start another thread. Lots of smart people may not look at a thread concerning "LED battle short and circuit breaker lights question", but would really interested in one concerning "the proper gage wire to be used for the MEP-803 load output cable?". And if you look at older threads, you just might find that info anyway.

And no question is dumb. other then the question not asked!

I use a quick disconnect on the ground cable. A former Marine told me that they used to pop open the CB1 to keep the batteries from draining over time (unused). I like the quick disconnect.

Got my new bulbs in today and got them installed, since they never worked to begin with, is it procedure that when the BS switch is toggled up that the CI switch light illuminates as well?

We do not do short text messaging here.

NO
Battle short lights for battle short only

Circuit Interrupter lights only when it is closed.

They are both PUSH-TO-TEST.

Just before I stopped contracting, the army here in germany started to install a lot of quick disconnects on gen sets anyway. Not sure about other gear, but gen sets. And the MEP-831 has always had it, I think. Can be a good idea, but I tend to think that when ever you fool with something often enough, it breaks, or gets loose. Or goes missing. You get the idea. Using CB-1 always seemed to work for us.

Battle Short toggle Press-To-Test illumination device.

Circuit Interrupter Press-To-Test illumination device.

Sorry for the confusion.
