Fred is a fine canine specimen, sure enough!

And funny that you mention Nova Scotia, have they got a special dog thing going on up there?

The reason I ask:

- I am born-and-raised in labrador retreiver country here around the Chesapeake Bay in the Mid-Atlantic

- I thought I knew ALL the local lab breeds until about a year ago walking along the C&O Canal here outside D.C., when I run into a guy walking with his dog.

- I couldn't make out the breed, LOOKED like a lab, but the coat was kind of russet (like a "red-headed" chocolate lab or something).

- I asked the guy and he says it's a "Red Lab" and that their native to somewhere up in NE Canada, like Nova Scotia or something.

Of course maybe he was making it all up, you know a comedian or something! But who knew? Something to learn every day.

Had the great pleasure of being the "engine runaway" guy while Seano11 got the Hercules running for the first time this year. What a pleasure hearing this thing fire up and learning about, 'the Multi-fuel'.

I'm moving snow on a few access roads around the G749 farm. We're hoping to have access to the landscape equipment when spring finally arrives. Hearing that Hercules come over the hill and watching how capable it is, I had to stop and grab video.

The snow is about 4 feet deep over the edge of this bank.....Seano11 made a good decision finding reverse.

Under full Covid Response Plan (CRP) practices and operating within Federal Laws, we saved another Deuce today. Thar she goes.

When a trucker became available, suddenly, I got the call and Moore the M211 is off to her new home near her first home. It's actually monumental because the Penhold Deuce is one of the reasons I started hunting bunkers. Moore, the M211, worked at the Penhold Base Bunker area for decades. If the plan works, I'll be taking pictures and video of a rolling, modern M211 back at the base 60 years after her first deployment. Just as cool, check out the big Dodge with the 41" tires that came to haul.

Meanwhile, my other plan is to use Mattech's M211, his fuel, mechanical skills and prep time and still enjoy driving an M211 to and from events. Right Mattech...........This thing is straight.

While working 12 feet away from everyone, I tore into piglet a little. Finally pulled dip sticks, pulled the black valve cover only to find grey paint under the tar and a bunch of happy rockers. There were a few guys watching so I wiggled each one of the rockers to make it look like I knew what I was doing. Grabbing the 1" wrench which is the wrong size for the flywheel nut, I grabbed the 15/16 instead and got the engine to roll about an inch, then felt resistance. Instead of grabbing a bigger wrench or a snipe, I think it's time to soak some pistons, but it moved.

I know we have some auto transmission fluid supporters out there so what do you make of this? If the engine starts, will the transmission pull? It doesn't smell burnt so place your wagers here. ( )

Itll go. Maybe crack the drain plug on the trans pan. Water will go to the bottom. Itll save trying to flush out the raspberry milkshake when you get it lit up. If it runs red right away youre golden.

This project sure took off. The M211 is getting the 2007 Duramax and the good lad that bought it is off to a running start. I don't mean it's running, I mean he must be running to get this far. We named this truck More when it came to the G749 farm in a 3 truck deal with Larry and Curly. It had some work done to it but it needed more work and now More is getting more, much more....Here's some good news.

It's a great start and should get better mileage than the old 302. Anything for the MVironment.

The duramax platform is awesome. I ran a gomaco gt3600 curb extruder for a period of time. Was on the highway returning from a job out of town in one of the dmax powered trucks when i thought i felt the truck leaning weirdly in a corner. So i checked the mirrors maybe i had a low tire..then i glanced at the spedo 160kmh..time to take the brick off the go pedal. Those trucks were absolute rocket ships. Sadly im a stick in the mud and keep doing the high compression lots of gears builds..maybe when i grow up santa will bring me a dmax to play with.
Cant wait to see this one ..and the smile on the guys face.

I didn't have a lot of video time but I grabbed a minute of pure 50's for our ears.

The G749 Farm was abuzz working under our very own Covid Response and Awareness Program Systems. That's right, we got the C.R.A.P. S. at the farm.
Getting signed up early means I'll be the first one going to work with the CRAPS. I usually take days off when I'm not feeling well but with the new systems we'll be working under, I'm legislated to go to work with the CRAPS. If I don't show up with the CRAPS they can refuse access to a jobsite.......and I gotta wear a mask. Meanwhile, back at the farm.

When Dad parked HIS tractor and felt too old to drive again, it sat in a barn. We never found time to get it running until today. We think it was around 2008 when we did the last big garden projects and we're getting her ready again. I know this isn't the tractor forum but this tractor has been around the G749 farm since 1951, when it was brand new. 1951 just happens to be the first year the G749 series rolled out of the factories.

I always thought we had an old Ford Ferguson tractor from some factory in the U.S. It turns out that this old girl is a Harry Ferguson made in Coventry England by the Standard Motor Co. Ltd. We gotta dig into that but first......what happened to the spark plugs after 12 years?

The oil looked great, radiator was up, the carb carbed and the rad radded, we pushed the start lever. Dad always had trouble with that start lever and so did we. After a 20' tug it started with a pull, as you can hear in the video.

We got more work done working with the CRAPS then ever before. I'll need another day to wipe it all up. Goose and Piglet got set up for the next phase of the operation so until then, I hope you get the CRAPS too.

I had a camera battery go bad so I missed some opportunity for video but I got a feeling we'll get some yet. Meanwhile, imagine the sound with the disk on the back of the 1950 Harry Ferguson cultivating past MV's. We're struggling with the 3-point hitch trying to get it to lift but I followed the SS mantra.......and I dug up the operating manual. Here it is for those coming up to the farm and want to plant potatoes.

Sorry about the pic quality. All I had was my seed potatoe camera.

You spotted that with the potatoe cam photo? That's some soils skills. It's mostly native grey soils on the hill tops and 4' of black sedge peat and organics in the valleys. I sneak the odd bucket of black out of the valleys when I can and added a bit today. From green Mv's and golden sands to the blackest organics on the chart, Grandpa picked some good ground.

No kidding, that is some of the finest farming ground I have ever seen.

Not that I know a whole lot about it, but I spent a little time in farmland as a kid (on weekends, visiting my dad's parents out in the country).

Funny thing is, that was JUST outside of Washington, D.C. back in the day. Kind of everything that was outside of what today is the Beltway (the ring road around DC).

Yeah. I might be an Old Fart!

This will put some youth in your step. If this ole' girl can climb hills, you still can. The new Duramax M211 owner hadn't driven the deuce before so I let him try it out.


You facebook kids can hear a young Duramax run in an old 1955 GMC 6x6 M211CDN right here.

That M211 in the previous photos had a nice clean 302 in her at one time....but there was a noise coming from her belly.


A part of my deal with the sale of the M211 was the return of unused parts. The new owner had to drive for 100 miles to bring stuff back so if you saw the Duradeuce M211 on facebook, give that guy a thumbs up.

We may have found a noise source from the original 302. When it was pulled apart for transport a small round piece of metal fell out from the torus. There's a little shelf about the height of the torus that could have held that metal there during initial testing from the PO. It's nice to know where some of the noises come from.

It's crazy watching this old Ferguson drag these big disks around.

The brother wasn't watching the plow on the way back to the barn and it sagged enough to tear up a few hundred feet of turf. He said he didn't feel a thing except impressed that the tractor didn't slow down and humiliated at the work needed to fix my turf.
