MEP806A Double Delta Single Phase

So the manual says single phase is possible in the default config. How much load could we pull in single phase and how balanced would it need to be? Trying to avoid getting a giant 3 phase transformer.
That just means 1 leg to ground. If you are doing several 120 volt loads it can work. Your phase to phase will be 208 though.

Alternator manufacturer says its 10 wire. Basically missing two neutrals. Says it is low y. To make it 12 wire would take a stator rewire. Says single phase can be pulled off each lead to l0 right now. Does that mean 110/220 is possible without a external transformer? Will Air conditioners be ok on 208? Can the VR be adjusted to get that to 240?

Don't adjust the VR to get you above 208 on a two phase setup. Look at the data plates on the equipment and it will let you know if its OK to run on 208. A fair amount of equipment is rated for 208-240v.

Most 220 single phase items can run on 208. Yes you can adjust up to a higher voltage BUT if you do the phase to ground voltage will not stay at 120. It will increase as well and your 120 items will not be happy.


Long story short dont do it. If you really need the higher voltage use a boost transformer.

They arent missing. They are internally connected in the head. T10 T11 and T12 are tied together.

Just spoke to them again, pulling off 2 legs, don't exceed 200 amps and it will be fine with no adverse affects to the life of the alternator. Will be 208 line to line and 119 line to neutral. Voltage regulator can lead adjust that as needed.

You really need to get some kind of a load on the third leg you don't want to run two legs
heavy one completely unloaded

So back to the earlier question, what are you trying to power up with this? and is it a prime source or backup?
There are much better options available if you don't need 60Kw of single phase power.
Or if you do need it, how will it be utilized? You may be able to load each of the 3 legs to maximize output.
Otherwise by pulling off 1 leg you will be burning fuel and only get 30kw max. and wasting over 1/2 of the energy available.

Stand by power for 6500 sf home plus climate controlled barn with animals and 5th wheel. A total of 15 tons of AC alone. We have infrequent outages, but now more than ever I want to be capable to keep power online for up to a week without any worries.

You can, you will loose a small bit to heat loss.

End of the day it boils down to how much current you really need, how much effort you want to put into keeping it efficient as possible, and what to do with the 3rd leg.

Transformer that large isnt cheap.

If I had to go the transformer route, id tap the set to 416 and step down to 120 204. Delta to delta. On the secondary open or closed delta will suffice.


200 amps at 240 volt a 50 kva would just be in range ( depends on how close you want to run at maximum)

Depends on what is readily available and what you really want to spend for the output. open delta still wont get the full potential out of it. Open delta is great for having 2 phases of utility and creating a bastard 3 phase. the transformer route is best when setting the generator to high (240/416) and using a double delta low or low zigzag. Low zigzag would yield the highest current.

Again best if you knew what the actual current requirements were, Just because its a 200 amp service doesnt mean you need 200 amps. If the actual draw is significantly less you wouldnt need to go through all the hassle.
