Allison now refers to it as a 4000 series transmission. Went thru school for Allison and I have worked on over 1000 MTVR’s.
Then you would know there are several types of 5, 6 and 7 spd Allisons in the 4000 series most of which are not alike internally or electronically. It's best to specify which 4000 series

There are wtec 3s and 4s too

For the Military Allison used in the MTVR their are only 7 speeds. That’s why I do not refer to a 5 or 6. I worked for Oshkosh as a MTVR FSR attached to the Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan for almost 6 years. I also went they the first MK-36/Mk-29/30 class in 2003. Been working on them ever since. I currently work on 11 AMK-36 plus other variants, been working on them since 2002.

So I was surface prepping my door for painting, and this logo revealed itself...Is this force recon? or some derivative? sure would like to find a clean copy of it originally so I could put it back on. The truck has bullet holes, two of the tires had bits of metal like shrapnel stuck in them and it has IR headlights and extra wiring for equipment unknown and was armored (bolt on) in its past. Lots of sand through out, as well as thousands of MRE drink packets. ANYONE have some ideas?

Most likely not any kind of Recon. We put all sorts of stuff on our vehicles - except when some geek of a Commander got his girl bits tied up in a knot and put a halt to it.

It’s hard to really make out the picture but it looks like it could artillery cannon tubes.

Kind of looks like paddles with bones drawn on them, has words at the bottom one is clear "death", letters above image were too far gone to make anything out. skull in center appears to have a smile...Only thing I could find on the internet similar was force recon.

You need to look at the M11330, that is the RUC number that is assigned to every Military unit. That particular truck came from 3Rd Bn, 11th Marines (Artillery unit) stationed at 29 Palms CA. USMC - 593227 would that be the one? on hood and inside passenger door.

Yes, the USMC number on the hood. Not all trucks always have the USMC number in the passenger door. Their should be a data plate that will show what type of MTVR, USMC serial number, OTC serial number and TAM no and possibly date of manufacture. The plate is about 2x3 inches in size. I have to go thru my reports….if you show me the holes that may be bullet holes I can tell what the holes are for or is from a weapon.

It had a round multi conductor cable running from the rear to the front along drivers side frame rail cut in several places terminated in a slot cut into the dash cover for the fuse/relay panel. When we picked up the truck in Yermo I as able to view the 20-30+ truck present ours was the only one with the headlights like these, we also have a sliding rear window, that was laying in the cab and I mounted in the rubber for the standard rear window (which was missing adding to the sand content), in case that info matters at all. Also had rivet nuts around the windshield some missing presumably for the armored windshield.

the IR headlights have separate wiring harness that has a round switch laying on the engine cover w/o a knob almost like they had a key or something to insert to turn them on. They have off on and bright settings, harness is beat up, with the headlights on the bench using a cheap video camera I was able to bench test the output, camera was not quite the right frequency so I was only able verify they come on by faint glow at the end of the cameras range. Is that the correct operation for convoy lights?

In regards to the rivnuts, those were for the first generation armored kits. They had the window, “L” shaped doors pieces, a turret gun shield and a turret back piece we called the Tea cup turret, armor panels for the cargo bed and a armored tailgate. The window was was the only part of the kit installed that way. All other parts were installed by being hung ( as in the doors) or installed using items on the trucks. The Marines used that kit for about 2 years, while waiting on the MAS armor kits.

So just a FYI, I worked for Oshkosh in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2004-2009, after that I got a job as a federal employee and all I do is work on MTVR’s (Primarily the Mk/AMK-36). I went they the very first Mk-29/30/36 class before the Marines got the trucks. So there is not anything that I have not done on MTVR’s. I even ended up having to turn a MTVR into a 6 wheeled skateboard once.
So I have 11 books from my time over seas and a shit ton of other rosters of trucks. I went thru 4 books and did not find your truck. It may have been that it was not in my AO (Fallujah, Ramadi, Najaf, Baghdad, Balad, Baharia, Iskandariya, Kalsu and a few citizens south of Baghdad). There was another FSR at Al Asad and he was responsible for Al Asad, Hit, Haditha, Al Qaim CKV and a few other places. We had like 1200 or so MTVR’s there for both the USMC and the USN.

Thank you for the information. Really is cool to know what I can about the truck. Now if I could only get the blinkers and stop lights to work...thought I had a source for a the switch but he shot me a price and then stop responding to emails to work out payment and shipping.

You must be talking about the cam assembly then. Actually what specifically is the issue with the lights, left and right turn signal or hazards and brake lights?

I have one brake light, Pas. side, turn signal Pas side rear, both signals front work, hazard light only on pas. side front. I disconnected at the firewall the line to driver rear, jumped it to front blinker to give my full turn signals, I have been squirting electrical contact cleaner and lube into the switch on the steering column and it has released a lot of sand, my whole top end of the steering column is pretty beat up steering wheel is cracked, horn button gone, gov planet jumped the the high beam wires together to compensate for burned out low beam, The steering wheel also received allot of carving from what appears to be a knife, guessing look's like something I would do in boredom anyway...and then there is rust on the exposed metal parts - flash surface kind.

I have not tried to take it apart with out lining up the parts to replace most of it, fear it will come out in pieces and brick the truck, because I don't have/can't get that one what ever it is, here in the middle of Wyoming. Only thing good is it is not getting worse.

Have you checked the bulbs in the composite lights, or is it the marker lights on the hood?

I traced all the wires, checked all the bulbs, replaced all the relays converted all to fuses, signal goes up the steering column does not come out on the lead to the drivers rear wire. When I jumped the wire on the engine side of the firewall from front blinker to rear tail/flasher everything from there down worked. traced signal from the flasher down to the switch and dashboard wiring harness. In fact just pulled up old messages you told me it was turn signal cam, about 6-8 months ago.
