Thread pitch for M1009 Jerry can bracket

Does anybody know the thread pitch for the bracket in the rear of the M1009? I have the jerry can, bracket and strap just need to figure out the thread pitch.

5/16" X 18 TPI

Just got back from the hardware store and the 5/16 x 18tpi did not fit

Are they too big or too small?

5/16 feels like the right size but wrong TPI, won’t thread in but the bolt appears to be the right diameter

Thread chaser is needed. I do not recall using an M8 X 1.25 bolt in the body holes. They were always standard bolts I used in them caged nuts.

You were right about chasing the threads, didn’t even occur to me. Thanks again for the help
