Question about hub bolt?

Hello Everyone,
I finally received my MTVR after like 4 months of waiting, it was sold as a non runner, but new batteries and a little tinkering we started it and drove it off the trailer.

I took it for a little drive about 15 miles or so, it ran great. However after inspecting the truck I noticed the center hub bolt was sticking out. Actually was only still on by a few turns. I tried to tighten it by hand real quick, and it only went in 3 more turns before stopping. The larger set of threads towards the Allen head also look stripped.

I'm not familiar with planetaries or these types of hubs in general. My question is what exactly is this bolt doing, what might cause it to walk out just in normal driving? Should I just grab my allen wrenches and put some more leverage on trying to tighten it? I'd rather not cause any more damage because I tried to muscle it back in place.

Congrats on your purchase and getting it running so quickly. I apologize as I cannot answer your questions. I also purchased a non runner. Sounds like your EUC took four months to clear? What issues did you resolve to get yours running?

I believe that allen key is to keep the main spindle in place.

Yeah took 4 months after I purchased it. Mine cranked already ( which i knew when i purchased it) When it showed up I threw a set of Group 31 batteries in it. Sprayed about a can of ether through it and put back pressure on the exhaust. After a few minutes of cranking it fired right off. No issues since. I changed all the filters and everything's seems alright so far, minus this hub bolt

Ahh. I think what you pulled out is the outer plug with a magnet on it that also pulled out the Allen key that olds the sun gear to the spindle on the cv axle. See pics below but you should be able to pull the bolt off the top part and reinsert the bolt into the spindle and tighten the sun gear back onto the spindle.

Circled part should come off the bottom part. What is stopping it going in any further is the end of the threads on the bolt are interfering with the threads on the spindle when you are free spinning that plug while the bolt remains stationary and you are forcing the threads into eachother rather than thread onto one another.

The allen on the outside of the hub is just a plug. That bolt should not have come with it. Here are a couple videos showing the inside of the hub.

Almost looks like they may have friction welded together a little bit.
I just took a look at the truck. The bolt and the cap friction welded together. I took a little work and I broke them free. After that I was able to reinsert the bolt.

I was able to reinsert the bolt back into the spindle. Is there torque specs for that or just give it a good snug? My only concern is that, the bolt walked it way out will drive and actually forced the plug out stripping the threads out of it and friction welding them together. Could that be another issue to investigate or someone just not tighten it properly once before?

I appreciate all the replies I did take a look at Micah Adams videos early this week to get a better idea of the planetaries

Probably won't find a torque spec for this particular as the manuals aren't available unless a Marine wants to chime in. It's likely a class 10.9 socket head cap screw, and if you can determine the thread diameter and pitch it's easy to find an approximate torque spec. Screws often have the grade printed on them but it's where it was friction welded. If you look at the head of another one and there are markings, may be able to help more.
