Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
I read the other thread from October about doing a swap to a C7. So that may be a option. Right we are just figuring out the finance side of the grants etc.Have to weigh it out then. It's going to be roughly $10,000 to fix just the engine on that truck if it needs a HEUI pump, main oil pump, oil cooler reseal with updated gaskets, HEUI pre-filter, and labor..... Another ~$6,000 for injectors if it needs those..... Not even considering anything else that's going on with it. Last one I did needed a new turbocharger as well - huge exhaust leak from the wastegate cover plate and the cast iron exhaust housing was warped so it couldn't seal. ... Wouldn't surprise me if that truck was dropped off at my shop and the estimate to fix it was $25k. Big truck labor rates are $250+ an hour now. Gotta love inflation.
Don't ya love unmaintained government surplus?
That's a tall order also. Friend of mine had to replace his C7 - $35,000 at the shop in Denver. That's with a surplus crate motor not one from CAT ($55k from CAT was the estimate) - and that's not considering the changes required to move from a 3126 to the C7 (should be minor though).I read the other thread from October about doing a swap to a C7. So that may be a option. Right we are just figuring out the finance side of the grants etc.
