Now that the temps here are cooling down, I changed lube oil and filter. Didn't see any oil drain plug gasket, not in drain pan. I used teflon tape on plug. Hope it doesn't leak. Will do trans and fuel filters next. View attachment 934015
I didn't have a filter wrench big enough for the lube oil filter so I used my belt. Worked great. Belt on oil filter.jpg

I started regreasing the wheel bearings on my1967 M52A2 it has been just over 10 years for this wheel and at the time this wheel cylinder was new I took the cylinder apart a cleaned it in soapy water and honed the cylinder on the truck and let it dry then put it back together .

May have figured out my RPM issue.
First a recap, after an oil change the shutoff solenoid started acting up then I couldn't get the truck over 1000 RPM...how any of this is related is anybody's guess...the diesel Gods are restless.
First I tore apart the fuel system, replaced the filter and the housing, addressing some casting issues I had patched up in the old one, but no joy on the RPM issue. Then I rebuilt the shutoff valve making it a full manual, again no solution finally I addressed the Pressure Time Filter in the pump itself. I tried every tool I could find to get that thing out even built a dam around the plug with 90 minute gasket goo and soaked it in Superzilla penetrating oil for a week. Was about to ask your learned opinions on this august forum when I realized I hadn't tried my gardening tools yet. Go figure a hand held Mattock did the trick. The filter appear to be clogged with sludge, fortunately I don't see any metal on the magnet. Have a new filter on order from Mike's, will keep you informed.

Started a Rad fluid change and block heater installation. When I opened the petcock nothing came out. On closer examination a mud dauber had built a nest in the oriface but after cleaning it out all I could get was a black gooey liquid to drip from the petcock. After probing with dental picks to no avail I rigged a rubber tip to my compressor valve and blew 10psi through the petcock, which cleaned it out.
I'd like to remove the petcock for inspection, short of purchasing a universal petcock removal socket tool does anyone have any experience with getting one of these out of the radiator?

Last M817 project was new batteries. After needle gun, ospho, primer and paint of the battery boxes. Crimped new 2/0 cables with copper lugs and heatshrink, all new terminals, all new bolts. It was about time the old ones were probably 1972 like the truck. 2 pin Nato adapter to a slave with a waterproof 24V trickle charger should keep them in shape.

Got all new belts on the her today. What a PITA! I like my M936A2 setup sooooo much better.

Next I gotta fix the parking brake so it holds decent then a couple of tires need swapping. Then off to the dump. So I can dump it.

Dang the thing is rough. Never going to win any prizes. Runs awesome though. Antique plates and Hagerty make it worth keeping around. PM's were deferred big time on this machine it's going to take some time.

Glad you got that cap off. I just thought of this that might help you next time. This is an impact driver that you use with a hammer. It works real good for taking off stuck straight head and phillips head screws and such. You can get one at HF or just about any place that sells tools. You might also try cleaning up that slot in the cap with a hacksaw and a file. That would help. Maybe could get a new cap too?
