A0 3116 Throttle Cable snapped

Hello all,

I recently acquired a ‘95 M1085 to ultimately build an overlanding vehicle. Previously a Willys Jeep guy, so this is a big jump :).

Within the first 24 hours of ownership (and a small drive in the neighboorhood) I managed to snap the throttle cable inside the cab just below the ring that attached to all the mechanical linkage.

Been a long time follower, but this is my first post. I checked the usual suspects for a replacement, but apparently they don’t exist. I currently crimped a ring lug on just to be able to move the truck around, but the wire is now 3/4” shorter and a funny angle. Net is I need a new (or used working) cable. Anyone have one? Or know where I can source one? Anyone ever rebuilt one?

as I patiently wait for help, I will now rebuild the air over hydraulic pump since it lifts the cab great, then blows out all the fluid after the cab comes back down. Sweet feature…

1. download all the manuals for it here at S S
2. look in the 24P manual for the part number 12420561
3. Google that part number... or look for suitable alternatives in other areas where the 3116 is used...

Welcome to the Outfit!

Like @Ronmar suggested - Download the TM's (Technical Manuals).
They have part numbers and instructions on how to repair these "toys".

2590-01-419-2991 is the NSN for the cable.

Looks like it was custom made by/for S&S/BAE since there are no alternative part numbers in Fed-Log. Google doesn't show much either.....

And this is WHY I highly recommend against A0 trucks. This same problem exists with SO MANY parts for the early trucks that it's basically an extra hobby on the side just finding and hoarding parts to keep them on the road. A1 trucks, but especially A1R trucks, are worth the additional cost when you start breaking junk like this and can't easily get back on the road without a whole detour down the custom made throttle cable adventure. Yeah no thanks.

And what a party it is.. :).

I stumbled into that part number from Eastern Surplus and was googling around. Then called the 3-4 folks like them that might have it. One said they considered making a run, but wasn’t justified yet, otherwise everyone was out of stock..

I was back and forth on this one and the opportunity was right. But aren’t they always. Ultimately this A0 will get me started and I can always move it all to another platform later if needed.

There is another place down in Louisiana, CCCABLES (custom Control Cables) that may also be able to gin something up based on your current cable specs(centr cable diameter, outer sheath dia, bulkhead dimensions, overall length and cable travel...

Lotsa things still run with control cables... Here is your chance to pay back the community, when you find a working solution share the info/source...

I reached out to these guys and basically sent them the pictures off the eastern surplus site to see if they can do the ends or not. I will take my cable to them in a couple weeks after they verify they can or not and see if it can be reproduced for others. In the meantime, i hope to still get one from TN as posted below :). (I mean above now. Lol).

Ha! Well sounds like a good score for you. The can be pretty quiet with the right insulation. They definitely aren't for everyone and if he thought anything from Stellantis was a smart purchase then I suspect the LMTV wouldn't have been for him. They aren't for everyone - these are really best owned by those with mechanical aptitudes and experience if not an outright former Motorpool mechanic :rolleyes:
