Found my notes from an off-line conversation I had on this subject. the person I had the discussion with pointed out some other possible options from Bulldog, Gabriel and Ford.

from my looking the Monroe, Gabriel and Ford all had the same specifications. The Bulldog was the same overall/extended length as the
LMTV originals, but had 1” more travel, so ~ 1” shorter compressed length… He was going to try the Bulldogs, but I never heard back how or even if that went…

What tools do I need to press the joints out, and…

What tools do I need to pop the caps back on after the repair and balance?

Once the yokes are cleaned up the new u-joint cups will slide in by hand. If they don't you have to stop and find out why and correct it. They should glide right in smoothly with no effort at all.

GeneralDisorder is right, we've used the same tool successfully multiple times, and also cleaning all parts is KEY to putting them back together. They go in by hand without difficulty. If not, there's another problem. DO NOT FORCE THEM, the do bend.

Same exactly one I own. I've done a couple trucks with it. Slides them apart like butter....

You don't want the PTO winch. Not really. It's a cute toy but leaves much to be desired in terms of usability. vs modern electric alternatives.
Please educate this newbie on preferred electric alternatives. I actually like electric.

Which or what winch and best attachment sites and methods.

And since the trucks already have the passageways for it, it makes sense to me to build a foundation and mount the electric where the hydraulic is normally placed. This allows you to use it for front or rear pulls like the hydraulic. It also puts it closer to the batteries so shorter heavy gauge cable runs to reach the winch,

I have always liked the “Foers” vector winch concept(google it), so that could also be done here with a permanently rigged 2:1 sheave at the rear and a 1:1 out the front, which is easily setup as a 2:1 using a sheave and running the line back to one of the existing tow shackles on the front of the frame. Lots of fairly inexpensive sheaves available to rig it and to use to fabricate the necessary synthetic line guides thru the existing cable passageway along the passenger frame rail…

I have a few Warn 18k 24V kits (had to buy three to get one of them). They are designed for the MRAP which uses the bumper so the kit does not come with mounting plate. Fine with me as I mounted it on a deuce where the PTO would go. It will pull the deuce sideways on 395's with single line no problem. Those kits come with battery posts, roller fairlead, cable and this amazingly heavy 20 ton McKissick snatch block. What I like about them is they are submersible and have overcurrent protection. Looking at the price of the above linked Sherpa I wonder how it stacks up. Warn gets a pretty penny for their stuff looks like twice the cost of the Sherpa. That said the Warn is top notch..... I'd like to see a side by side pull test.

I can't imagine mounting the warn to the stock location of my M1078A0. I don't think it will fit it's just too long. It's also very heavy you would have to jack/rig it in to place. The mid mount idea is attractive. I may go conventional front mounted with an aftermarket bumper if I get impatient. I've had two of those kits sitting for awhile now and they are "sort of" for sale as it appears the $2500 each I paid for them is too much for the market. If nobody buys them then the PTO will come off the M817 and one will go there then when I get to the M1087 one for that. Always projects in the line.....

Sherpa gets a lot of bad reviews for their quality and support. I know several people that will not touch them anymore.

Warn is quite good. Actually headquartered across town from me. They make a very good product and have excellent product support.
