Need some help for new M35A2

I have just purchased a 1989 M35A2 from GovLiq. I have yet to pick the thing up and have a few questions:

First it appears this only has 23,000 miles and about 900 hours. Owned by the national guard I am hoping this means highway miles. The seats and interior seem clean, as does the outside. Of course this is from Gov Liq, they say it does not start which could simply mean the batteries are missing.

That being said I have to pick it up and was wondering the following:

1. How do you start it. While I was in the military I was 11B1P, I jumped from planes not trucks. I realize this has no keys, but a heads up on what to pull and check prior to starting would be great.

2. Anything in particular I should be looking for prior to starting?

Thanks. I have already lined up a tow truck just in case, but I believe it should start just fine. I will post more questions when I get it home.

Good looking truck. I would start with the batts. Make sure to check all of your fluids. Basicaly to start just turn on your master power and hit the starter button.

Yes, go to Wally World (Walmart) and pick up two 12v batteries, maybe 10 gallons of fresh diesel and a primary fuel filter???? Good luck and very nice find!

Nice Score Congrats, Take batteries, Engine oil, Diesel Fuel, Plenty of Tools, Brake Fluid, differential fluid, big piece of cardboard, antifreeze and a suction gun. And like they said above check the fluids, start it run it for above 5 minutes shut it down and check the fluid levels again (oil, brakes)
Set the ebrake, chock a wheel, turn the truck off and get underneath and look for excessive leaks. Having a tow on standby is an outstanding idea. Most trucks will start but have(need) brake bleeding issues. Thats why most members suggest towing home VS halfway into the trip the brakes go out and you slam into somebody. Good Luck:-D

Thanks all. Like I said I jumped from planes, I think maybe rode a Duece once or twice, most of the time I walked through a swamp or sand.

As for it not being a 1989, perhaps as I have no clue. I only go by GL information as I could not tell you what year my POV was built were it not for the fact I have the title.

Heres what I have:

CHASSIS MANUFACTURER CODE AND MODEL NUMBER 19207 M45A2
III ENGINE/MOTOR MANUFACTURER CODE AND MODEL NUMBER 19207 LD465-1
And My bad, the procurement was 1985 (Sep) from AM General so i can only assume it was new then unless corrected otherwise.

I have had great luck with GL, I am particular in my searches and my auctions and pay attention because I cannot preview. This particular auction was in KY and NOBODY was bidding on the trucks. Most went for $700.00 or so!

I figured what the hay, I have wanted one for years. I hope all it takes is some fluids and some batteries, if not no biggie but I can always hope.

I am still waiting on the EUC which everyone knows can be a few days or months:cry:

Can you go into more detail on Brake Bleeding issues? Can you bleed them in the field? Are specility tools required? I was unaware this is a common problem that's needs to be accounted for when picking a duece.

Where is your truck? I'm a retired Sub man myself, understand the feeling of being outside the correct field. I just purchased a truck at Red stone arsenal and hope its as good as it looks. There is a guy on ebay who is selling a great cd with operator and tech manuals. I'm getting ready for when my EUC gets released. I think my truck has been retrofitted with a key, anybody have anything on keyed trucks? Jumper out and just use the starter switch?

Ohnuts. I saw those for sale, about a week after mine in KY. We almost bought another. Some up in MI too, I have family there and a cabin in the area so we thought about buying there as well.

I actually live an hour at the most from the lot this truck is located, more like 45 minutes.

According to GL my truck was possibly over hauled in 1985, according to the seer of seers here I got the following

Organization:1163RD AREA MEDICAL COMPANY Location:LOUISVILLE
KENTUCKY Nomenclature:
TRUCK CARGO 2-1/2T Model:
M35A2 NSN:
2320000771616 Serial Number:
22514350 Registration Number:
4K1471 Year of Mfg:
1966 Usage Miles: 21904

Confirms the low miles which is good, AND gives me an excuse for an historic tag.. and for KY that means a ONE TIME FEE of only $59.00 with NO ANNUAL RENEWAL... EVER.. muh-hahahahahahaha:twisted:

Damn truck is older then I am. Oh well. Thanks again to everyone, EUC was approved and I just had to resend my OL (in color) so it looks like I will recover her soon..

Is this truck a turbo? I thought you mentioned it had an LD465 which means no turbo? If I recall the LDT or LDS are the turbo'd engines.
